View Full Version : Anyone here own a 335i?
NoSoup4U 02-23-2007, 01:41 PM http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=689704 -- besides that this is pretty dang ridiculous of what one can get for sub $600 (to the wheels no less), what are your overall thoughts on the 335i?
How does it handle compared to a normal 330i (not in terms of acceleration; but, handling).
How does it compare to an E46 M3?
I tried to test drive one at BMW of Arlington -- but, they said they had none for test drives at the moment. Also, I like the darker brown leather -- terra? i heard they discontinued that color -- is it true?
Thanks,
James
Teuton 02-23-2007, 02:33 PM Borrow Bogdan's car. I think the car is fantastic. Very quick, handling is good for a stock car with run-flats. I was actually quite impressed with the grip of the tires and suspension (mind you this was just zipping around and not in a venue to really push the car and see how it behaved). The car is big comparatively to the older E46's. Very comfortable and quite ride quality.
It's a brilliant fast GT car. Is it a sports car? Not really.
Pete
PS- Are you going to buy yet another car?
Bav///Man 02-24-2007, 03:47 PM It's big compared to an E46? I didn't think things got much bigger.

nick325xit 5spd 02-24-2007, 09:58 PM My Mom just got one.
Handling stock kicks the shit out of the E46 M3, apart from the diff. It's been too long since I drove an E90 330i to make a comparison there.
FWIW, hers is Terra.
wushucivic 02-24-2007, 10:01 PM i'm pretty sure bmw of fairfax will have some if you want to test drive them. would you be getting this as a DD?
bogdan 02-25-2007, 08:27 PM Just come by and rag on mine, it's broken in at least. :)
Teuton 02-26-2007, 09:36 AM It's big compared to an E46? I didn't think things got much bigger.
Yes. It's bigger (longer). I'm not sure if it was wider.
NoSoup4U 02-26-2007, 09:59 AM It's really not going to be for me. I am trying to get a second DD for someone else. I was thinking about leasing one. I would be purchasing the automatic. I'm looking for my own DD and a tow vehicle. So, non-luxury cars for me. :(
Mad Dog 20/20 02-26-2007, 10:38 AM I test drove one a while back. Fabulous car. Perfect DD. I just don't care for the looks of it. Runs about $55k out the door, too . . .
New '08 3.7L G35 coupe will be be unveiled this month . . . likely to be a looker, for a lot less.
John V 02-26-2007, 01:50 PM The 335 starts at right around $40,000. WTF option boxes did you tick to get $55k?

These were the stickers on the 335's at Union Park BMW in Wilmington, DE about 2-3 months ago. I suppose they were pretty loaded - I don't know - I didn't check the stickers too carefully because I was just joy-riding.
Coupe was about $55k out the door, though. Sedan was 2-3k less.
EDIT: A quick search on the e90 forum revealed this recent purchase:

Okay, but who wants a slushbox? :stickoutt
Seriously, the only option there that is even close to worthwhile is "comfort access" which lets you skip putting the stupid key fob in the dash before you push the stupid "engine start" button. Okay, and maybe the cold weather package.
I hate how the lemmings at BMW have made starting the f*cking car a multistep process. Technology for the sake of technology sucks.

Hmm lets see... dont need the sat radio, dont need a power sunshade, comfort access is unnecessary, so is the active cruise, ive heard the active steering really isn't noticeable (atleast from what ive read in reviews), dont need metallic paint since jet black is the only color youll ever need, and personally i wouldnt take the slush box, so no need for paddles either...base price for me...
total options: $6650
total: $47,945... they're practically giving them away :shifty
Mad Dog 20/20 02-26-2007, 08:46 PM Yeah, its an expensive car. I'd say its worth every penny if you like the looks. The car is crazy fast and also extremely refined/up-scale. The ride/handling compromise is much better than an e46 M3, and it does not feel nearly as heavy as it actually is. It also has the most hop-up potential of any BMW, ever . . .
It will be interesting to see how it holds up to big boost/power increases and track abuse.
Phat Ham 02-27-2007, 12:17 AM Okay, but who wants a slushbox? :stickoutt

I hate how the lemmings at BMW have made starting the f*cking car a multistep process. Technology for the sake of technology sucks. Easily the least worthwhile option is the active cruise control. $2200 for cruise control!?!?
I've used the cruise control in my m3 exactly once. And that was just to make sure it worked.
NoSoup4U 02-27-2007, 10:00 AM I am not 100% sold on the looks; but, since it's not for me, my say is rather nullified :embarrasm A co-worker has one and I look at it every morning since he parks it in the same spot everyday (he gets here fairly early since I get here around 8:00 a.m. at work). I was thinking when I get my lifted jeep, I'll park right next to him :)
I do not mind the front end; but, the rear end with the taillights -- it looks a bit weird. I called up BMW of Fairfax and they are going to let me test drive one there this weekend. I'll show up wearing my helmet, racesuit, baklava, and nomex gloves :stickoutt
I am just curious that if this car is around $45-47K, optioned mildly, what is the E92 M3 going to cost then? $55-60K, or more? The 335i should be priced about $5K-7K less at around $38-42K. The M3 should be at $48-52K (e.g., E46 M3 prices). I wonder if the CF roof panel is going to be an option or standard?
metallic paint -- unhh ... should be std. price $475
premium package -- must have $2450
sport package - what does this include? just sport wheels?
slushbox: $1275
paddle shifters: $100
PDC: $350 -- must have -- if you let a woman drive, you must start thinking about getting PDC :D
cold weather package: $750 -- another typical one must have
comfort access: $500 --- very handy to have believe it or not. Walking up and just unlocking/locking/starting car without taking keys out of pocket. Silly little option -- but, well worth $500 if it's the same as the Lexus.
rear sunshade -- sort of worth it I think ...
Around $6K in options --
Where is the H/K package? Is that now standard with 6 disc changer? Is alarm standard as well?
Do they come with all-seasons or summer tires?
NoSoup4U 02-27-2007, 10:16 AM Oh, and here are some worthwhile competitors maybe worth watching:
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/20/meet-the-audi-a5/ -- not sure how audi is with their reliability now (but, then again, not like BMW is hella better).
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/20/audi-s5-surfaces-in-wake-of-leaked-a5-images/ <-- E92 M3 competitor
I found this thread rather informative. He sent an email to 30+ dealers in CA; and, 22 responded. You can see how many dealers were willing to negotiate versus those that didn't.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180505 <-- has anyone in the DC/MD/VA area done this? I'd be curious to see which BMW dealership negotiated -- if any.
Here is the confidential pricing list to use in negotiations. I've tried it with BMW of Arlington -- they laughed at me :( -- tellling me no dealer in their right mind would sell any car on that list for $500 over invoice.

For those interested in the BMW convertible pricing:
http://jon.bimmerfest.com/bulletins/2007_E93_Pricing.pdf <-- wow, $5K jump in price -- wonder if the coupe will follow suit
SpeedTheory 02-27-2007, 10:17 AM I do not mind the front end; but, the rear end with the taillights -- it looks a bit weird. I called up BMW of Fairfax and they are going to let me test drive one there this weekend. I'll show up wearing my helmet, racesuit, baklava, and nomex gloves :stickoutt
I think you meant balaclava. Unless you're planning on wearing a Mediterranean dessert to the dealership. Where's GreekM3 when you need him?

OOPS :embarrasm
I did mean BAKLAVA :shifty -- makes a great head ornament :stickoutt

I wouldn't spring for it, but I'd like it a lot. Cruise control is great, and active cruise just makes long trips that much nicer.

Sport Package
Light-alloy wheels; 18 x 8.0 front, 18 x 8.5 rear, Cross Spoke (Style 189), 225/40R-18 front, 255/35R-18 rear run-flat1 performance tires
8-way power front sport seats with adjustable side bolsters, 2-way manual headrests and thigh support; driver memory for seat and exterior mirror positions
Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters
The standard wheels are 17x8 with all season run flats.
I'd save the cash on the rear sunshade and get tinted windows instead.
nick325xit 5spd 02-27-2007, 01:19 PM The rear sunshade sounds like a good idea, but I never used it when I had it.
funfgang 02-27-2007, 03:58 PM I loved the sedan I drove...just wanted to be a bit rougher then it was...it would make a PERFECT DD...but as far as a 2dr sports car...I think others hit the mark better...
but they are DAMN expensive...
magnetic1 02-28-2007, 09:32 PM Friend of mine just did a Euro delivery on one. I think it was about 15% off that way. Im also the first to have performance pads for the 335i ;)

bogdan 03-03-2007, 09:21 PM The sports pkg is a must have, not for the wheels, but for the sports seats. They are much, much better than the regular lux seats.
Comfort access is great, until it doesn't work one day because the key-fob has never been put into the CAS system, and has never recharged. :D
