I was wondering if anyone knows how I can switch my configuration so that my doors lock automatically when I start to drive, or put the car in drive. As it is now, I have to manually do it. The dealer's suggestion was that I bring in my car and pay 50 bucks for them to change it in the computer, but I don't wanna spend 50 bucks to have my doors lock automatically. any suggestions?

2002 325i btw...

thanks!

sorry, I don't think it can be done without programming, at the dealer.

$50 from the stealer sounds good; I haven't priced it at an indy shop though.

$50 is like a half hour labor, which is a fair price. some dealers have a minimum 1 hour labor charge. don't know if indy shops can do it. they can if they have BMW's DIS and CIP software (DIS is diagnostic information system, and CIP is coding/individualization/programming).

If you are going to pay for it, you should look at the list of all the programable options to see if there is anything else you want done.

Here's a partial list - what I can think of for ya anyhow...
- Daytime running lights on/off ; Selective unlocking (either all doors at once, or driver's door on first press and the rest on the second press) ; Driveaway locking - (doors lock at 4 mph) ; key memory on/off (seats and mirrors move to last position used with the key you're unlocking with, either when you press unlock, or when you open the door) ; pathway lighting time (pathway lighting is already a feature you can use and the default is 30 seconds. After you turn off the car, you flash your brights and the headlights stay on. You can increase the time to 45, 60 or 90 seconds).

There's probably some more that I can't think of, but the dealer will have a list.

I was wondering if you could do all any of this. I have to say -1 for bmw on that, because both my TL and TSX could be done through the dashboard.
