Was walking in form checkin my trunk for water, and my eye caught something in my dads Datsun 280. Is it even worth the hassle putting this in?:shifty

its not even a hassle. it takes 5 min

Now I see the picture, didnt see it last time.

its really easy to pull the cluster out and switch, took me 20 minutes to do. But with how the car works and its mechanical speedometer, you will get an off reading on your speed. When I switched to the 120 MPH speedo It always shows me going 5 MPH faster than I actually am driving.

Well Since i am replacing the steering wheel i t should be pretty easy. the thing is i don't know how to replace the cluster. I don't know how to remove it. Can anyone explain it to me. i tried once and busted the whole thing. this one i wanna get done.

So is that speedo a BMW speedo or a datsun speedo ?

that is the same spedo in my car.

it was made by moto meter and is a bit less accurate then the standard BMW VDO gauges.

To remove the cluster is easy. behind the sterring column if you feel around you should feel to ridged plastic nuts, you basically unscrew those with your hands and then feel around until you find the (I think speedo cable) and unscrew that, then it just comes right out if you push from the back.

The cluster should be held in with only 1 aluminum knurl nut. I have removed speedos from both pre and post 80, and they are the same.

I couldn't remember if there was one or two.
