View Full Version : Water In TRUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!
ATLBimmerkang88 02-21-2007, 08:45 PM Guys i have no idea what the hell is going on here but i have water in my trunk. I checked the taillight seals the corner light seals the waste tube for the sunroof and the window fenders to let water run through. I can see were the water has run down the left rear wheel well. I think it's the trunk weather stripping. I just don't know. any comment will help. and i will Check anything you tell me to.:help
Kevin E21 02-21-2007, 08:57 PM It's probably the weather stripping. Even if it doesn't look broken or cracked, pull it up a bit and see if there is any junk underneath it. Mine has crud that got under it somehow and it lifts it slightly enough for water to run by it.
The best way to check is to open the trunk and run the hose on the roof, and see if the water comes down and where is goes into the trunk. You either need to replace the weather stripping, or do what I did and atleast clean out the junk that gets underneath it.
MattE21 02-21-2007, 09:06 PM Damn. I thought this was about driving your E21 to go get a colon cleaning. Down in Gawga. :(
e21gangsta 02-21-2007, 09:43 PM what is it with you and Gawga? :)
Broly238 02-21-2007, 09:45 PM The best way is to climb in your trunk with a flashlight when its raining and close it and see where its seeping in. Thats your best bet.
No seriously, its most likely the weather stripping, they may look ok, but they usually aren't especially if they haven't ever been changed.

Yeah, like I said, mine looked pretty decent, but there was actually grime and wet leaves that some how got gunked up underneath the weather stripping. If you clean it out it helps, but it's best to just replace it anyways.
ATLBimmerkang88 02-21-2007, 10:05 PM Ok, i went and looked at the weather stripping it looked just fine. So i ran my finger through it and all this black stuff and junk came out.I didn't lift it up and look but from what i got from in the stripping my best bet is theres crap under it. thanks guys!!!! great work!!!:alright
O yea and the"Gawga" thing is getting. Well....... It's getting kinda old.:)
Sorry:(

Shut up already, that got old after the first one...
So no one here is going to tell him its the seals around the lights? Thats most likey the case, the trunk seal, even if rotted, holds in the water pretty good. Id bet its the light seals, this is a very common leak.
ATLBimmerkang88 02-21-2007, 10:57 PM Well thats the first thing I replaced. and i ran water on the lights and no water entered the trunk. but just in case i will run to the yard tommorow after school and pick up a seal!
blitzed310 02-21-2007, 11:04 PM Well then obviously its your trunk seal. Where else did you think it was leaking from, the spare wheel well?
ATLBimmerkang88 02-21-2007, 11:09 PM No i thought that the runoff tubes from the sunroof were clogged so blew it out with a air nozzle.
Euro320iRacer 02-21-2007, 11:41 PM If you have rust on the end of your trunk can result in leaks. Thats caused by bad weather seal. That was one of my problems on my trunk seal... Atl Bimmer, check where the water is coming from.... I checked mine by spraying water on the trunk then, opening it after to see the water. Thats how I determined my leaks.
marinersfan 02-21-2007, 11:42 PM Chances are when you pull up the seal it'll look like this. My trunk was constantly damp and lots of condensation on the trunk lid. I sanded what you see down to bare metal. Then I prepped it with POR-15 and then I used a filler. After sanding it all smooth I painted it and put a new seal on. Dry as a bone now I and did this back in October.

You can get it from www.bavauto.com, their prices are pretty decent, and they ship it right out.
320ipyro 02-24-2007, 10:53 AM damn dude, you have more bits and peices in your trunk than i do!
ATLBimmerkang88 03-01-2007, 06:29 PM Well today rained all day, and guess what i still got water in my trunk after replacing the trunk weather stripping. So I just start to investigate anf feel around the trunk and follow the trail of water and guess what, Just as blitzed310 said it's the lens seal it tripping right out of the corner. is there anyway i can seal it?

Buy replacements parts.
CJ is always right somehow... Damn him and his knowledge.
Madhatter 03-01-2007, 07:30 PM bit of silicone would do for now. I went into a rubber place with what was left of my gaskets and got some high density foam rubber for mine. Think it cost about $20, more than enough to do a couple of tail lights, if you dont mine a bit of cutting that is.
