depends what you're going for (i.e. budget, race, street, etc). you can probably find quite a few old threads on the topic if you search for 'suspension'... fwiw i was happy w/ my h&r + bilstein setup when i had the e21 (somewhere in the $700 ballpark). stiffened up the ride a LOT compared to my previous blown-out stock suspension, but it wasn't too harsh for me. i'd recommend something stiffer if you're planning to track your car. you'll get quite a bit of negative camber in the rear when you lower it-- i was planning to get camber plates for the front to balance it out instead of correcting the rear (i like negative camber). but be aware you'll get some uneven tire wear that way.

i just looked at your car again and noticed you're in long beach... i used to see you on the way to work! (i used to have a white e21 w/ yellow inner lights, 'is' front lip, and a jetta spoiler, in case you ever noticed my car.) i see your car parked on my street sometimes (hathaway)... if you go a little farther down the road you'll see my white 8 series.

nice car.

reddragon, congrats on the purchase of your new 8 series. That is pimp slick. Man, you've moved up a bit.. from the forgotten bmw to the ultimate exotic. :eyecrazy

the 8 is amazing in lots of ways (15mpg has its downsides... but at the same time a V12 and 6-speed have their upsides...), but the e21 was my first bmw and i'll always have a certain attachment to that generation.
