So, if i have a mid 90s car, that's worth jack poop, and it has about $40k in it - where in the world can i insure it for what it's worth?

If it gets stolen - i get $4k back, and lose $36k?!?!

I've called few companies and they only insure antiques and cars prior 1988...

Damn MD .... :(

Please help!

THANKS!

Say that you put a 1987 E28 chassis and engine on the car so that it is effectively a 1987 automobile.

I have progressive and they do offer additional coverage for aftermarket parts and such. Your best bet may be to have the car appraised then the insurance company will have to offer you additional coverage for the appraised worth of the vehicle.

Don't buy it - the cost of insuring a vehicle like that will be huge.

BTW, BMW is even further subsudizing 328i leases... $349/month now.

who said i'll be buying it for $30k???

:)

i need to insure it for $16k though, even though it'll have 2x put in it?

why is it so hard anyways?

i'm not asking my car to get insured for $20k just to pay $500/year for insurance -- i'll still be paying just as much as everyone else pays on their $20k cars?
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?!

Why not just call your insurance agent and ask?

I think it will be more of a hassle than it is worth. From what I understand, if you have a car worth "x" dollars, and you want it to be insured "x + $30K". Basically, what happens, is the insurance company wants a full detailed list of the modifications, including receipts (they do not include labor as part of the write-up).

then, they say they will insure it for 'x' amount. For example, if I want to add a turbo to my M3 -- and cover the cost of the turbo. I could ask the car to be insured for $40K (20K for car, $15K for turbo, and $10K for other parts). However, it places you in the 'high-risk' category with some insurance companies.

It may be more hassle than it's worth.

We had a customer at a shop call up his insurance and put an additional rider on his car (prelude) for 40k. It can be done, but I dont know what that affects your premium as.
