I just removed the entire rear end of my 328i. It includes the 3.91 open diff, subframe, control arms, trailing arms, and half shafts.

I'm doing the 5-speed swap myself. The pedals are a PITA, but it helps to unbolt or take out your front seat for more room. Also, a helper with the hardline is useful too. I made a harness for plug and play in my obd 2 car, but it's not necessary. the obd 1 cars are different so i dont know about the wiring for your car.
