Kasper69 02-25-2007, 06:45 PM How do the JL boxes sound?

Phenomenal - I had a set in my 98 M3 coupe and pulled them to put in the sedan, though it takes a little finagling to get them in there.
Warner 02-25-2007, 11:00 PM Good god, I'm shocked. Congratulations, dude. I don't believe you sold them for so much. I'd hope you didn't bid them up yourself. ;p eBay is full of suckers.

How much did they go for?
Warner 02-25-2007, 11:52 PM $355 shipped
SPElectronics 02-26-2007, 09:16 PM Yeah, the bidding got crazy right near the end there. I had bids in on them too, but I didn't watch it near the end, and they went for way more than I expected. I decided at the price they were starting to hit I'd just build my own custom enclosure like I usually do. I wish I could get my hands on one of the stealthboxes just to look at it and maybe make a mold of it though. I would build something similar for others.
Warner 02-27-2007, 01:42 AM Infinite baffle often has dimished frequency response. I've been debating the purchase for a while. I'm sick of the weight of a sealed box and the trunk is too small.
SPElectronics 02-27-2007, 01:52 PM I agree, the trunk is too small to be filling with speakers, so these stealthboxes are great. But as you said, frequency response is limited, and if you're a basshead they don't quite cut it usually. Someone else had a post showing a box he built that he secured under the rear deck, which left most of the trunk space open and usable, which was kind of nice. I am considering something similar for mine, but probably a little nicer, using fiberglass. A single 12" in a ported enclosure can do wonders.
Although I don't normally carry a spare (I know, I'm nuts, but I have AAA), so I might just build an enclosure in the spare tire well, and keep the main trunk space usable. Just have to build a strong cover over the top so heavy items don't damage the speaker. Expanded metal and acoustically transparent carpet works great though.
Warner 02-27-2007, 09:08 PM I believe water drains into the E36 spare tire well, might double check that.
I might see about designing boxes to mount against the wheel wells on the sides..
SPElectronics 02-28-2007, 09:28 PM There are lots of options really, but it's all a matter of how much space you're willing to give up in the trunk. These days though, subs are designed to use very small sealed enclosures, so you could easily build something into the driver rear corner without compromising much trunk space. Or relocate battery and factory changer and put something in both sides... :)
Thanks for the tip about water draining into the spare tire well. I can't imagine them having water drain into the spare well though, since that could cause mildew and rot, and rust. I'll check it out. It wouldn't much matter if water normally drains in that area though, since it won't affect a fiberglass enclosure. Gotta love the waterproof properties of 'glass.
Warner 02-28-2007, 11:19 PM Yeah, it's a tought decision. I'm not even sure I care anymore. ;) I've had so many stereos.
It's common in a lot of cars, it just drains via a hose.
SaiKoE36 03-01-2007, 03:07 AM what do you guys think about using these jl subs and other set of subs in the back?? would that produce good sound and bass??
