In '79, what was more common for the 320i? with sunroof or without? The one I just bought does NOT have one. Does that tell me anything else about other features? Did that mean a different trim package? It does have A/C.

Its less common without a sunroof. People like these for track cars since they can be more structually stable.

It means that the car was ordered without one, thats all.

Most in the U.S. have sunroofs. Cars without sunroofs are not a special thing, I have a '78 without one and an '82 with a sunroof. I prefer cars without, I'm tall and need the headroom and they weigh less-sunroof weight is in the worst spot for extra weight....

I had a 78 with no sunroof, but it has been sent to the crushers...my 81 of course has a removable roof and my 79 has a sunroof....

I agree with CJ, its less common without one.
Its a matter of personal preference.

I had a glass pop up aftermarket one that I found in my 79 323i similar to the green alpina b6 that was similar to Brett's old car.

I nixed it for the original style sunroof, and grafted a later model 80 style roof skin onto my 323i and I am much happier with it.

They are a hassle, more stuff to go wrong.

But for the few days a year I actually use it, its nice.

I think I would like em without.
