I'm looking forward to this project!
Picked up the 87 Canadian 635 CSi this past Saturday. Seller is a great guy. Got his title issue resolved and I headed down for the pickup. Had an interesting time! First, the battery was dead when I tried to start, so we jumped it. Started quickly with good idle. All of a sudden, he's motioning to cut the engine! Second, the fuel line from the hardline to the fuel rail was leaking. It was an old hose. He had happened to have some BMW fuel line in the garage along with some BMW clamps (I told you he was a good guy). We R&R it in the driveway. Then we checked the coolant. Third, the radiator cap came apart in his hands! We stuck it back together (it holds pressure). He gave me a set of Euro front and rear bumpers which we loaded in to the truck and headed home.
The trip home (about 80 miles) was uneventful. The drivers side seatbelt won't latch, so I tucked the buckle under my butt. Georgia enforces seat belt usage and this way, it looked like I had it on. Had about 20 miles of twists and turns be fore hiting the four lane. It reminded me of my 85 535i (a sweet ride). We hit the four lane, and I had to keep backing down from 80. Car wants to run.
Got her in the garage now. She won't be seeing much weather. Started a list of what needs replacing. Put in an order to Pelican this morning. Should get fresh fluids in next weekend.
Remember the old 535i? I had visitation rights, until the current owner got hit in her at a stop light. No harm to him; but the car was totaled. He has it at home striping off parts. I went to visit him last week and got a few parts I knew I'd be needing. One of those parts was the drivers seat belt latch. I'll replace that this week. So, in my new (to me) 635 CSi, I'll have a few of my old 535i parts. A nice touch.
Did I say I'm looking forward to this project?:redspot
