wiggafly808 02-19-2007, 08:38 AM ****** look @ post #9 for before and after pics ******
Hi guys, im looking at picking up my first bmw.
This is from someone on the forums, but its auto =/.
Besides the rust, it seems to be in good shape.
He is asking $2500.
His trunk and sunroof area has some rust. Ive heard its expensive to repair, so if i could do it myself, that would be great.
How hard would it be to do myself? i dont have much experience at all in this area of work =(, but some of my friends do.
If not, what would you guys estimate this to cost:

wiggafly808 02-20-2007, 04:39 AM anyone?
promp3 02-20-2007, 05:16 AM yea thats somthing you will have to get done by a pro obviously it will need to be repainted, but depending on how deep the rust goes it will need to be grinded off and filled, if its completely through the steel it will need to have a patch welded in. rust is like cancer thought if you dont remove it all it will just give you more problems in the future.
it looks as though some paint got damaged and the rust srpead that way, the good news is that you will only need to repare the rear clip area under the trunk lid the bad news is there could be more rust behind the tail lights ect.

thanks for responding
do you have a ballpark figure on the price?
promp3 02-22-2007, 07:54 PM totally depends on the place you go. I'm completly guessing but somthing like $400
deanomyte 02-23-2007, 10:49 PM No way. If you could get it fixed for $400 then buy it. That rust looks like it is really deap, it's gonna be some cake. I know rust, my off road vehicle had the CANCER BADDDDDDD. It took a lot of time and some new fenders to get it back in shape.
abbot555 02-23-2007, 11:04 PM Trunk and sunroof has rust ?
I think your best bet is taking the pictures to a shop and ask them for a quote. But with rust in 2 places I would check that car really good for more rust.
mekram 02-27-2007, 11:00 AM i had a little bit more rust than you on my 95 325i. i got an estimate just to amuse myself and it was around 1500. it was from maaco. i'm going to get someone on the side to do it for me. other than the rust my car is perfect interior wise and engine wise. the leather is absolutely flawless!
wiggafly808 04-01-2007, 12:20 AM well, me and my friend from school worked on it for about 3 hours yesterday.. sanding, rusteater, bondo, primer

wiggafly808 04-01-2007, 01:12 AM yeah, i tried there, but
(We cannot ship Spray Cans, Pints, Quarts or Gallons outside the 48 USA states.)
sigh.. downfalls of living in hawaii
Wankel 04-01-2007, 01:39 AM Wow, very nice job man. Do you mind telling me what brand of primer you used for the job? And try www.towerpaint.com for your paint, not sure if they ship to Hawaii though.
wiggafly808 04-01-2007, 03:29 AM Umm, im not sure, but i can ask my friend because it was his primer haha.
I know it was a aerosol spray one.
The pictures make it look a little bit smoother than it is though.
Thanks for the site suggestion, ill check it out.
wiggafly808 04-01-2007, 04:54 AM I'm not sure of the brand, but it is cold galvanize primer.
mekram 05-09-2007, 09:02 PM where did you get the info on how to do this? is there a website i can go to fix the rust on mine?
thanks
