I would say take her to the good shop and do a inspectation if/before you buy it, it might save you some money.

At BMW? ok that sounds better.
SleekBMW 02-17-2007, 05:27 PM Lets say BMW says the radiator fan is toasted, and the abs module is toasted, how much should i offer for the car?
AlpineOtown 02-17-2007, 05:35 PM If I were to buy that car I would not offer more than 8K on it. Just me.

Thanks ALOT. i was kind of in the same ball park, he said BMW is giving him 7500, so i will give him 8. I hope hes happy with it. That way, i can replace the thing with a zionsville radiator ANYWAY!
GatoEnFuego 02-17-2007, 05:40 PM With no records, a bad ABS module (almost always the module, don't let them tell you it's just a wheel sensor) and a bad fan clutch and assuming a good shop does a full inspecition and doesn't find anything else wrong I'd say 8.5k doesn't sound too bad. The ABS module is expensive though ($500 if memory serves) so work that into your offer. What color? 5spd or auto? Factory wheels and totally stock? By the way, the check engine won't come on due to a bad radiator fan... It's a totally mechanical device with no sensors. Please have it inspected before you make an offer or exchange any funds.

Absolutley thanks for letting me know
Its black on black, factory 17 inch rims, its some 30 year old guy with a HUUUUUGE house. What im thinking is, if this guy is so rich why is he selling the BMW? i didnt think it was a ABS sensor either since he said it only comes on once in a while. Its auto. 100% stock. heated seats, dual climate control, all pixels working, service done by MotorWerks in Barrington.
Il have autozone or BMW inspected if he doesnt then iono
but check these out what you guys think

SleekBMW 02-17-2007, 05:54 PM i just remembered, i cant get intimidated I AM THE ONE MAKING THEIR SALE! WOOT! i dont HAVE to buy it, i have to keep reminding myself that.
GatoEnFuego 02-17-2007, 06:11 PM Exactly, as others have said... If it doesn't feel right for whatever reason, walk away. From your description, it sounds like a gem. Good snag on the sport model, makes all the difference and well worth it. BTW, Autozone will not do an inspection, they can run your CEL code but thats it. Take it to BMW or an independent shop and pay them the $100-150 to do a FULL inspection on the car before you make a solid offer. They WILL find things that you will miss and that will give you much more negotiation room or reason to walk away.

Thanks man. Iwill be making an appt with MotorWerks of Barrington. Lets see what happens. AND he now said he doesnt have the maint papers.
SleekBMW 02-17-2007, 08:19 PM btw the bottof of the drivers side mirror is kinda discolored..any idea why? AND theres a rattle in the drivers side door.
SleekBMW 02-17-2007, 08:25 PM should i really try for this one, or wait and go to one of those that i linked above, less miles etc. but no heated seats either!
GatoEnFuego 02-17-2007, 08:37 PM It goes back to if you have a bad feeling about it then there probably is a good reason. If you are a very DIY person, then don't let little things like a door rattle and a discolored mirror scare you off. Now if the mechanic says the compression is low or he feels a slight tranny slip, then run away. Go with your gut, but just remember those other cars are at dealerships and you need to pay taxes on those purchases and just because their "guys" did a 20,000 point inspection before it was listed doesn't mean you can skip on your own inspection.
VacMan 02-18-2007, 01:16 AM I would run away from that one fast with all the issues you've mentioned. Much better deals are out there if you wait for them.
FWIW, I bought this car for $7500 with 126k. It was a single owner vehicle, had all service records from the day it was born, and just needed a bit of TLC from it's new owner to look like it should. I have a spreadsheet showing over $13k in service work done while he had it; if it was broke, about to break, or might break in the future, he fixed it.
I haven't put a dime into anything mechanical (yet) and have about $2k invested in making the car what I envisioned when I bought it.
Good luck to you and keep your eyes open...the right deal will come!
