Well, I'm ready to go out this week and finally acquire myself a 2006 BMW M5 SMG.

I have a few questions for you all though.

This may sound a bit rediculous, but are there any simple things I can do to get every last ounce of strength out of this thing? i.e. exhaust, ecu, etc.? I'm going to be getting rid of my E46 M3, so this will be my DD. Also, seeing how this is my first post here I'd like to say hello, and give myself a pat on the back for finding this place.

Are there any E60 M5 specific boards out there as well?

Thanks guys and gals

i think e60 m5 will be enough power for a d/d. smg is very jerky, but i'm sure you're used to that aspect from your m3. I drove a m5 about three weeks ago..Awesome car. Gas mileage sucks. You're going to fine that comments on this board because alot of people don't like the styling of the e60 and given the price alot people are waiting it out for the price to fall. Good luck. Gosh, you're in lajolla-I love it there-used to lived there several years ago-the most awesome place in the usa.

Thank you Dello.

My wife and I just moved back down from Orange County. Couldn't really stand it up there. The moving was great thuough, I just drove my 360 down here and left the rest up to my wife and the movers :P

I've decided to pick up an '06 and save myself near $12k. My M3 is actually a manual, so the SMG will be something new.

Personally, Chris Bangle's designs have grown on me. I just bought my wife a 335i and I love the way it looks, as well as drives.

Although, the interiors seem to be a bit bland now.

The E60 is an outrageous car for sure. Here are a few hints.
Gas mileage sux (plain and simple)
Gas tank is way too small = short driving range between fillups
SMG for around town driving is not optimal in my opinion, but many have
mastered it
The price has fallen very quickly, I def WOULD NOT buy new
The aftermarket is starting to catch up the the E60 M5, but be prepared to pay big

After owning an E39 M5, I found the E60 550i 6 speed to be a nice compromise of power and technology, so that is what I bought.

Good luck with you purchase
