Hey everybody,

I noticed today that my car has very faint scratches all over the paint. I'm not sure if this came from using a mothers clay bar incorrectly or because of the hand car wash place I took it to last time it was dirty.

I've clayed a car many times before and have never had this happen, the clay bar was new and was never dropped during the process of claying the car.

I need recomendations from anybody thats willing to chime in on how I can fix this. I've been meaning to pick up a PC and some cleaning supplies so I guess this is a good time as any to buy them and learn how to use them (please refer me to a good place to buy them).

The car is NEW (1k miles) so the paint should be in good condition except for the stupid scratches which are only noticeble in direct sun light. What should I do? I'm a fan of maguiers (sp) products since they give a decent shine but a really long lasting defense against the elements. I cant have the car looking like this too long as it's really making me mad.

I really appreciate any info and I will post before and after pics to see what the process did.

Sebastian

Oh BTW this is the subject.....

Man that is beautiful!!
Yeah, your best bet is to get a PC. They have packages that come with the PC, pads, and products at our forum sponsor Autogeek. I would suggest picking one of those up. Unfortunately, you will need almost the same amount of products to remove your swirls that it takes to remove swirls from a 10 year old car. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Sab568 - Most likely these faint scratches were picked up at the wash you mentioned. There is a possible fix without having to purchase a PC [which is a great tool.] I suggest going to pep boys, Napa, AutoZone, or order from Autogeek to get some Meguiar’s Scratch-X, follow directions and use lots of passion [elbow grease] and these light marks should go away. Do this after washing your car and then you need to clay, cleaner wax, polish and your final wax or sealant again.
Here is a trick that really works well for Scratch-X. You know those black or brown shoe scuff marks that show up where your shoes mar sliding in and out of your car try some X…also try this on light bumper scuffs. Let us know if Scratch-X works for you. Not seeing your car I am guessing on the proper process for you.

Most car washes, even if they are hand washes. are not going to use proper wash methods. Improper washing (dirty/old/cheap mitt, dirty water, etc) will produce straightline marring everytime. I would really recommend looking into a PC, the only way to be sure things are done right is to do them yourself. Go to autopia.org and look around.

If you can, wash it yourself. You will certainly take care of it more than the stealership porters will.

Soap - http://www.autogeek.net/duragloss-car-wash-concentrate.html
Mitt - http://www.autogeek.net/shmitt.html
Towel - http://www.autogeek.net/cobra-waffle-weave.html
There are a LOT more goodies you can get for washing, but that is for a good start.

PC - http://www.autogeek.net/popoprkit.html
That includes everything you will need to remove the swirls, and comes with a wax, Natty's Blue. Makes your paint look WET!

This is just the bare bones and you can definitely spend A LOT more if you aren't careful. Feel free to PM me if you got more questions or check out www.autogeekonline.net
