Will e30 seats fit in an e21?

jk :)

For real, I need to repair the cables in my recaros (the dial and lever don't work anymore). I couldn't find any instructions in the forums, do I just go at it? Am I going to run into some problem where I ruin the seat (being inexperienced) if I take them apart? Best place to get replacement cables from?

I should note that the upholstery is actually in good condition (vinyl). Thanks in advance.

You can get the cables from the dealer. Most dealers don't have them in stock and it will usually take about a week for them to get it. If you want the part number let me know as I have ordered the cables from the dealer before. It will be easier to loop the cables if you take the vinyl off.

There are a bunch of posts on this in the forums. E30 seats will NOT fit in an E21 without some modification to the rails - i.e. welding. Depending on who you talk to (and your skill set) its either fairly straight forward or a real bitch. I'd lean towards the real bitch side.

thanks, but I was joking about the e30 seats thing...that's most of what I found when I was searching for the answer to my question.

Beam..thanks, I'll let you know if I can't find the part number, but when I take the vinyl off, is it easy to get back on? or am I going to have to call Al C?

I have replaced the cables on 2 sets of Recaros with no problem. You will also need the small metal ring that secures the cable to the bracket/mechanism that controls the back and forth movement of the seats. Check www.Realoem.com for the part numbers.
