Ok guys, who's going? I'm psyched, my first DE and all. I'm going to try and convince Thomas to let me bring his pop-up tent, since he's not coming, so anybody that wants to park together, that would be cool.

I'll start the list :)

chill out, there will be LOTS of people there, If you are planning on camping out at the track, beware the weather can be COLDDDD at night. Make sure you get some good rest on friday night, DO NOT DRINK alcohol friday or saturday night, not good to show up to the drivers meeting hung over. (knew of a student who did that!!!!)

Why are you telling him to chill out? It is standard practice on here to ask who from the forum will be at a particular driving event. It doesn't matter that lots of people will be there...it only matters that people from the forum will be there.

you got me wrong. "chill out" as in over excited being his first DE and all. I DIDN"T mention anything about anyone putting their name on the list of attendees. I will be there too friday thru sunday. Being attending EVERY Road A. peachtree DE except 1 since 1996. My point was to get plenty of rest, have had many rookie students not getting the rest they needed friday night (partying.......) BTW: all the other NON-Forum members there don't matter? I need to go around the paddock with my laptop to sign EVERYONE up. :)

Haha, I never thought about camping out at the track. I'm not sure I would want to do that, though, unless others were going to as well.

And trust me, the only thing that will keep me from getting some sleep the night before will be some excitement!!! I plan on bringing a cooler stocked full of water as well, definitely no alcohol for me. :redspot

And you shouldn't listen to Tim. He always falls asleep at the track.

HAHA!! I don't think I've met Tim yet, I know he was at the November autox, but I don't think I actually met him.

David, I've met you before, but I'll try to stop over to your area and say hi as well, I'm the redhead thats usually hanging around Thomas's tent.

You need to wait for the July School, pay close attention, because they usually sell out EXTREMELY fast (Become a BMWCCA member if you aren't already; you get to sign up a week before the school is open to the general public.). Also, this one sold out the SAME DAY it was opened to the general public, so you can tell how quick you need to be to sign up.

BMWCCA members price is $375, non-members is $415 (there's your annual CCA membership right there).

An HPDE is a High Performance Drivers Education school. Personal 1-on-1 instruction, in your vehicle, at a racetrack (Road Atlanta, in Braselton for the Peachtree Chapter), along with classroom instruction, in a 2-day, weekend course.

It's an absolutely incredible weekend. You'll learn a TON, you will meet a shit-load of people, and you will be absolutely amazed at the camaraderie that you will see amongst participants, especially when somebody breaks down.

Do as kendogg says, but come out to watch on one or both of the days, just to see what's involved and if it's something you think you could do and would want to do. Talk to folks about what they are doing, and move around the track to watch from various sections of the track. I spent 2 or 3 days doing this before signing up.

Me too, actually. I was a spectator at the July and October schools, met some great people,w as offered rides in some bad-ass cars around the track with instructors, now I'm hooked as well!!! And I haven't even been on the track in my own car yet!!

+ 1 on getting a ride with a Pro, followed by Parade laps and then I did the SCCA PDX and then I hit up Road ATL with the BMWCCA.

One thing I do know is that it's not for everyone. No shame at all. A lot of my buddies are into cars in different ways. One can enjoy cars in many different ways. The best part - no tickets from the law and an instructor to HELP you.

Another good part about HPDE's - it puts you in a reality check with regards to your current driving skills. Everyone out there thinks they are badass.

A mature adult will listen to an instructor, learn and improve towards being the best driver they can be.

Can't wait till March :D

The SCCA PDX is an excellent start. $100 for 2 sessions on track during the Sunday quiet hours. And you get to watch 1 or 2 days of racing, included.

It really isn't for everyone, and that's precisely why a few days watching is worth the investment. I know folks who have said that T12 is something they don't want to experience again.

Corgi, considering that video clip of yours with the 911 that brake-checked you at the bottom of T12, there'd be no shame if you found yourself among those who are "done" with T12. Glad to see you are still with us!

HaHa! The next session after that one on the video I got at the front of the line and attacked that turn 12 again and again until I felt comfortable with it at the speeds I had been going before. However, I am still not able to go full throttle from the bridge. Maybe this year. Thanks for making the connection.

Friday is the best day to get rides as the instructors are on track all day and you won't be competing with students for instructor rides.
