Hi there,

I am new to this forum, have been looking for a while and thought a good idea to join.

My problem at the moment is that I need 2 front tyres on my car but they are metric size 230/55/390, these are very expensive and also are no longer being made, only whats in stock here in the UK, I have been advised to change my wheels for 17" BBS style 5 with 235/45 tyres which I like but am concerned will ruin the nice ride quality I have with my current setup, my suspension is stock, has anyone done this and what is your thoughts, thanks

The ride quality will not change much. make sure you get an alignment.

The UK roads in general are pretty damn smooth so you probably wont notice.

235/45/17 are standard on some BMW models so its not very extreme.

Thanks,
Its either I spend £300 for 2 new metric tryes or £550 for a set of genuine style 5 wheels with new tyres, would be nice if i could try a set of 17 wheels b4 buying though.

I've looked into this a bit myself. Everybody with 17" I've asked has said that the ride quality isn't appreciably different from 15" (which is a fraction more than 390mm). 18" is where it starts to get rough, evidently.

find any 15 16 or 17 inch wheel off of a E34 E39. the 520 is nothing special and does not require style 5's.

now if you want to fit style 5's then 550 with tires is a good price

Personally I think the E34 looks best with Xspoke style wheels and I have seen so many on this forum with the wheels, I think its also the deep dish that suits the car.

Where did you see style 5's for £550 with tyres.

I paid more than that for the 15's on my VW Polo :confused

Which wheels are you talking about. Maybe M-pars?

The wheels I saw were all 8J and were from a E39 the ones from the 8 series have 9J rears which are more expensive
