View Full Version : Best place in MAR for windshield install?
Mad Dog 20/20 02-13-2007, 09:02 PM My 10 year-old e36 windshield is now pretty badly pitted and scratched (too much tail-gating I suppose). :(
Anybody got suggestions on source/installation?
OE would be great, but a decent aftermarket one would be fine if the price is right.
TIA.
SicNA94teggsr 02-13-2007, 09:26 PM edit: dudes name is Ian. his cell is 240.464.7711 He works for a company, but does work on the side. I dunno if the price he gave me is good for everyone, but he charged me $169 parts and labor, incl new moulding. He is also mobile.
Did a great job on mine, fast too. HE also told me to go ahead and pass on his number.
I had a great experience with Safelite.
they were very quick (like 40 minutes) and a very clean install.
total was about $233 or so?
camiloteram 02-13-2007, 10:21 PM Shit, I just got a quote here in PA for 325 because of the molding.
Should I call Ian? How would that work out? since I live in PA
camiloteram 02-13-2007, 10:23 PM If Garrett decides to go with Ian could we set up a double date thing? were he did both of our e36 windshields in one location. That would be so great.
Mad Dog 20/20 02-13-2007, 11:46 PM SicNa,
Thanks for the Ian info.!
I'll holla at him.
woodym3 02-14-2007, 12:16 AM I and a buddy both had very satisfactory installations done last month at Safelite on Washington Blvd in Arlington. 703-243-1604. Ask for Joe.
There is a national office 614-796-2470 that can tell you of other locations.

Yeah, that would prob be the best, since I know him from MD. You cant beat the price either, its the same glass BMW uses, just doesnt have the stamp on it. Let me know how it works out
adolenc 02-14-2007, 11:47 AM Banner Glass did a great job replacing my windshield, much better than the last person who did it. Previous windshield resulted in some whistling. Plus Banner glass was willing to put in PPG glass rather than OEM. After using the PPG stuff, I'll never use the OEM stuff again.

Oh yes, and tell Ian that John Green who used to work at Tischer sent you:D
woodym3 02-14-2007, 01:40 PM Price?
Would you believe $156 for an M Coupe? A negotiated 2-at-the-same-time deal. I was surprised they even had two in stock for this rare car.

What's the difference? PPG is harder?
The OE stuff is soft and pits easily - but will not crack as easy as some other stuff . . . or at least in theory . . .
I have had aftermarket glass in other cars, including an e36, and never paid it no mind . . . worked fine. So OE glass is not a big deal to me . . .

Yep. After 20k miles on the original glass, I could see scratches from the windshield wipers in the glass. After a little bit later you could feel them with a fingernail. Then there was all the pits from road debris. PPG glass has held up far better in both regards. The only time the PPG glass cracked was when a truck in front of me drove over a chunk of tire carcass and flung it directly into my windshield. Hit so hard the main rear view mirror popped off and landed in my lap (and scared the crap out of me!). No windshield woulda survived that. Asked for the same PPG glass to replace it.
