ice>Link's been dead for about a year, DICE is the new way to go:

This is the kit you need:

DICE iPod Integration Kit for BMW
http://www.europeanautosource.com/product_info.php?products_id=268

The DICE iPod Kit will integrate perfectly with the Z4 and offer steering wheel control as well as ID3 text and charging of your iPod. Full CD Quality can be expected after installation.

The kit will come with everything needed w/ the docking cable. The iPod can be safely stored away in the glove compartment or center storage bim for 100% stealth installation and accessed completely from the steering wheel controls.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Tom,

How tough is installation and do you perform it?!

Installation is tricky on the Z4 applications, but not hard at all. We do perform installation services also, contact me via phone or email for more details.

Took us 4 hours the first time, then we had to remove it all because we didn't have the adaptor and I broke something (didn't want them to see the ice link). Second time around it only took us about an hour and 1/2. Big learning curve. Our main problem was getting to all of the stuff. I'd go professional if you aren't one for DIYs.

I have the Ice Link, don't know how the boy got it, but I love the system. It's great.

Installation isn't that tough. I took my time with it and took 90 minutes. Well worth the time. HD Dice takes a little longer because you have to mount an antenna.

and I had a friend doing it who rebuilts engines in his driveway and knows more about auto electronics than anyone I know. Took us 4 hours because we couldn't find anything or get to anything. But I have a vert, may be different.

I am no electronics genius. IMO, it was really easy. I have a 'vert as well. I have a 2006 Z4 3.0si, which I think is easier than an ///M. Was your friend charging you by the hour? The biggest problem I had was getting the correct two cables which were taped down at the firewall.

I presume that the kit comes with detailed car-specific instructions, i.e., the instructions for the Roadster vs Coupe? The non-Z4 install looks easier because the electrical connections and mechanical installation can be made in the trunk, while the Z4 install has to go through the center storage bin (by the way, how do you get to the electrical connection in the storage bin?)

Adding to this, assuming I know nothing about my Z4's internal layout, how easy is it to install this thing? Is there a book/web-site that provides a detailed layout of the Z4? Is this even necessary?

While these are for installing Sirius, the same procedures are used to locate the connectors that are used for the DICE kit:

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Looks doable. One afternoon and a half-bottle of a nice Cabernet should do. Thanks.

I don't have a Z4M. Are the instructions similar for a Z4 2.5L?

If you use EAS, by all means CALL them to determine/negotiate exactly when their shipping will arrive. Don't trust an internet order to arrive on time. My 3-day shipping is turning out to be 11-calendar-day shipping due to EAS slow order turnaround and using the super cheap and unreliable FedEx ground.

Had I known that this would happen I would have paid more for real FedEx.

EAS had no interest in acting as an advocate for me with FedEx, instead they just washed their hands of it, and wished me a good weekend.

I have replied as well, with an offer to post screenshots from the FedEx tracking site.
