I found a '89 M3 that might happen. I'm pretty well versed on E36 M3's, but not at all on E30's. Any tips on what to look for, etc.? Thanks. I've done some searching, but latest insights are very welcome.

Leakdown and compression test are a must, timing chain, suspension, steering, cooling system, vacuum leaks, etc etc etc. Check everything you normally would with another car as well. Just give the car a damn good once over, and if it suits you have a knowledgable mechanic(who knows the S14!) look at it and give you his .02. sticker 02-14-2007, 10:03 PM Is it local? I live about 45 minutes away. Vacmotorsports in the city would be able to give it a good look. Cory 02-15-2007, 12:43 AM It's only a few miles away, but we can't coordinate our schedules until next week. I also found an E28 that needs to be considered. Both seem squared away so I'll likely drive both and hopefully take one. sticker 02-15-2007, 06:12 AM I don't know if you have delt with Vacmotorpots, but if you call then and ask I'm sure they would take a look. They only work with mini's and bmw, and know the e30 m's very well. There's a BMW specialist in Upper Darby by 69th Street that is excellant! And for swaps and extreme issues I always take the 2 hour trip to see Rui at azevedomotorsports.com sticker 02-15-2007, 04:58 PM Do you have a name of the place Upper Darby... can aways use some good help? Thanks Cory 02-15-2007, 05:38 PM There's always Zygmunt Motors in Doylestown who's fantastic as is Bavarian Specialties in King of Prussia. And, if I get my E28M5 (which I think is likely) I might have to check out Motorsport Recycling in Rahway even though it's in New Jersey (not because of the distance, but just because it's in New Jersey). keikun 02-15-2007, 06:05 PM VAC Motorsports is a rip off? They helped me find a crankshaft gear for under $200, i called everywhere in the US and worst case was the Stealer. OOMPH333 02-15-2007, 07:52 PM VAC Motorsports is a rip off? If you used them to get a part, it's a different story. Congrats on a good experience, I on the other hand would never recommend anyone take their car there to have work done! "Expert Auto Repair" in Upper Darby is where I always used to take my e30. Fixed numerous problems no one could figure out. JEDM3 02-16-2007, 09:51 AM I have to counter post the ripoff posting for vac. They provided all parts and machine work for my m3 2.5 and I am very happy with their services. THey can be tough to get a hold of but either Chris or Tony are capable. Cheers, John Good luck with the search, great cars and great fun. Just try to have it checked over by knowledgable firm to avoid getting stuck with a money pit. nmlss2006 02-16-2007, 11:12 AM Local E30 M3s at prices that approach decency? I've looked but... |
