Hello.. wanted to ask you guys on the wear rate of stoptech rotors. I had brembo rotors before and it didnt last as long as the stoptech, i know stoptech rotors are thicker than brembo, but my stoptech rotors lasted for about 13 track events (26 track days) until it started to crack. .. does that sound right ? TIA. btw, this is for brembo BBK.

As far as I've been told the Stoptech rotors allow for an extra 1mm of wear (double that of a Brembo rotor) and also sport a 15% higher airflow than the Brembo rotors. That being said, supposedly the metalurlagy of the Brembo rotor is superious to the Stoptech rotor which should equal or outlast the Stoptech rotor.

This is all in theory as I have not used either... just from what I ascertained from phone conversations.

Are running drilled rotors? BBK? What pads are you using?

yes, im aware of that from stoptech rotors. but 13 DE seems awfully fast for a rotor to crack right? i ran 2 sets of pagid orange, which is "easy" on the rotor supposedly, and a street pads on them.. and the rotors are slotted, brembo bbk.

Properly broken in rotors?

Properly broken in rotors?

im not sure, good question.. but how long does this rotor usually last for? under DE circumstances.

IMHO, completely depends on driver, pads, temps, tires, track......

I got micro-cracks after the first DE on new brembo slotted rotors, it's 5 DEs later and does not seem to be much worse.

From what I ascertained from my conversations with Brembo... they recommend drilled rotors for street driving and the occasional track DE. However, for track events, they believe the slotted rotors are the best.

thanks for the answers guys, but can anybody give me estimation on how many track DAYS their stoptech rotors lasted for, i just wanted to compare my wear rate with someone else's.. under normal DE circumstances (read: rotor friendly pads, broken in pads/rotor and all)

When you say cracking, do you mean hairline cracks on the rotor face? It depends on how hard you are on the brakes but your rotor wear does seems normal. 26 track days on one set of rotors is great in my opinion, you figure that is 13 weekends which is a lot of track miles.

Do you have a brake ducting setup? We use Pagid Orange pads with our Stoptech BBK and are getting similar wear to what you are getting.

It is really hard to comment on this without knowing more factors. I have used Stoptech and had no problems. Your wear does seem normal. We would get about half a season out of ours. Here are some very important factors. Yes i read what you said. Just giving a little more info

1. Cars weight
2. Tire compound( I go deeper and later when on slicks or wider R compounds)
3. Brake Pad compound
4. Tracks you go to
5. Driving style

Also some people's idea of a cracked rotor differs from others. Minute surface cracks can grow larger but are usually not bad. Most rotors I've seen will have the minor "crazing" and surface cracks from heat cycling, but the worst cracked rotors I've seen were Brembos or stock E30 M3 brakes on an S50-powered E30. Completely busted through in at least one full radial crack.
