im selling my old car for $1 and want to know how to.
I have been to GA DMV site but im going around in circles trying to find what forms I need, if any....
I assume I need to take my tag off and return it somewhere so I no longer get taxed on the car. Im in paulding county, Im going to have to get a new tag at one point, I assume I can just drop off the old tag at that time? or is it even eaiser and I can just put my old tag on this bimmer and sign some paperwork to fax in or something?
I assume there is a form to show the transfer in ownership?
I assume need to sign over the title.
anyone thats done this before --> can you hook me up with some links to what I need?
TIA

LOL, im actually getting $1500 for it but its really for the navi and extras in the car that im asking that much for. the car is really free to the person buying the Navi. its a 96 Acura TL2.5 with 140K and actually runs great!
I just wanna dump it and im hooking up my buddy thats helped me out alot in the past and could use the car for his family....
all the damn links in GA DMV that say "how to sell a car in ga"... they all tell me to wash it and put a for sale sign in the window....:eyecrazy

All you have to do is write up a bill of sale, and sign it :devillook

yeah the dmv website is correct... just sell it, transfer the title (instructions are on the title itself), and make up a simple bill of sale in microsoft word

You need a T7 form (Bill of Sale) and the title to sign over to the other person. And that is it, the DMV will do the rest. Make sure you put the date sold on the title or that person can abandon the car and it still is in your name after you sold it. Just some advice.

why do you care what the sell price is on the title? in GA there is no sales tax on person-to-person car sales

Just sign the back of the title (exactly how your name is spelled) and give him the title. A simple bill of sale with the date, price, and VIN is good for your records. Take your plates off.

ok now what do I do with the plate?
also I got the title for the bimmer in the mail today.
do I just put the plate on the bimmer or do I have to go through the trouble of handing it in and geting a new one?

If I remember right just go to the court house and get it changed over to your new car, don't put it on until you get it fixed

The last time we switched cars, the tag office actually gave us the option of transferring the old plate to the new car. Even so, we went with a new one instead.
As for "handing it in," they probably won't even want it. They'll just cancel the registration and plate, and you'll sign a very simple form that basically says, "This isn't mine anymore." Then your old plate will just be a souvenir of your car.
We've got a few hanging on the wall of the garage serving as relics and/or decoration. :)
