View Full Version : how do I get my filthy dove door panels clean? xjeeper 02-10-2007, 01:32 AM My dove grey door panels are pretty dirty from the years. Whats the best way to get all the dirt and grime out of the vinyl? Totoland 02-10-2007, 06:00 AM I typically don't use harsh chemicals on interior panels and seats. I usually mix mild dishwashing liquid with warm water in a spray bottle approx. 8:1 (water to soap) and use a Boar's Hair brush and terry towels. The brush will not scratch vinyl, leather, or plastics and the terry towel will "grab" the surface to remove grime. In the detail shop, I also use compressed air and a small nozzle to blow dry interior panels and remove the soapy solution from cracks and crevices. Totoland connorb850 02-10-2007, 12:56 PM I use the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and Vinylex to clean door panels...the erasers are slightly abrasive and work well for getting dirt out of the grain of the vinyl. Mless5 02-10-2007, 01:25 PM Lexol worked for me. Go to their website for instructions. Easy, cheap, AutoZone should have it. Analog1105 02-10-2007, 02:33 PM if its in very bad condition (for example like black/brown instead of gray) then i would get an interior scrub brush and some good all purpose cleaner. dilute the all purpose with water about 2:1. spray a section of the vinyl that needs to be cleaned and scrub with light to medium pressure. use light pressure when scrubbing leather. this could be bad for the vinyl/leather if u do this regularly but if u just do it once it shouldnt be too harmful. however this isnt to say u shouldnt be very cautious while doing it, keep a close eye on where ur cleaning/scrubbing to ensure your not doing any damage. try using the all purpose with a rag before u use a brush to see if that works instead. make sure to wipe it down immediatly with a wet towel afterwards, dry it, and dress it with conditioner or vinyl dressing. Weaselboy 02-18-2007, 01:01 PM I used Permatex Orange hand cleaner with pumice. Works great. Just rub it n with a damp rag then wipe off the residue. Das Auto 02-23-2007, 09:58 PM You might try a 10:1 mix of Simple Green in a spray bottle. Steve530 02-23-2007, 10:19 PM I've used 303 Aerospace Cleaner to clean a beige door panel. It worked very, very well. It cleaned all the dirt trapped in the grain of the vinyl. deanomyte 02-23-2007, 10:44 PM I tryed a diluted mixture of simple green, and would NOT recomend it. It didn't work as intended. I like the idea of the soapy mixture due to its thicker viscosity. I'm gonna try soapy water and an all purpose cleaner. I'm gonna try soapy water and an all purpose cleaner. What ratio did you use? I've used simple green & water (1:10) and a small brush for my panels and it cleaned up nice. |
