View Full Version : Are all OEM M5 wheels the same finish? Davidss 02-08-2007, 06:36 PM Are all years of oem m5 wheels the same shadow chrome finish? 98M3_4 02-08-2007, 06:54 PM Yes. You cannot get this exact finish legally in the US thru aftermarket means. The paint is not approved, not EPA compliant or something like that. Htownmobaudio 02-08-2007, 07:01 PM i have a set of oem m5 wheels that need a new owner mottati 02-08-2007, 07:01 PM as they age they tend to get a little darker, and as was mentioned, really hard to duplicate. I bought my car cpo about 4 years ago, at the time, they replaced one wheel due to some road rash, but it didn't match the other three, so i bitched and they replaced the rear wheel on the same side, so at least each side matched, but the L and R were a shade different. I later found a shop that comes pretty close to duplicating it, using a black powdercoat followed by a translucent silver. But anyway, you will see some variability in the finish based on the age and if someone has tried to refinish them. Mike 98M3_4 02-08-2007, 07:40 PM I think that's probably why BMW stopped using that exact finish. Or they meant it to be unique to E39 M5 franka 02-08-2007, 07:56 PM Are all years of oem m5 wheels the same shadow chrome finish? Not all available wheels for the E39 M5s were the same finish. I'm running a set of wheels that were an option on E39 M5s and they are the regular silver painted finish. The BMW name is "Star Spoke 69" and they are 18x9. They were also available in different widths. The same design was also used on a standard X5 wheel but in a different width. 98M3_4 02-09-2007, 03:32 AM franka, stop it, you know what he meant :stickoutt franka 02-09-2007, 09:05 AM He said all. I have to believe he meant what he said. If you're trying to start an arguement I'm not interested in participating. 98M3_4 02-09-2007, 04:16 PM Nah, just giving you a hard time ;) |
