It varies, but can be read by the dealer with their scan tool. There is supposed to be a card supplied with the car at delivery with the value of the passkey, but I was told the VPC sometimes fails to pass these along. I stopped by the local dealer and they were able to tell me the passkey value for my car.

This was my experience also. No card was provided so they pulled it up with the scan tool for me when I had it in for service.

My Passkey was on a little card in the glove box. It doesn't actually say passkey# as it's abbreviated as pk#XXXX.

FWIW - don't look for a little card... it's actually a 1/2 page sheet. Instructions in a handful of languages with a sticker. The sticker has the IMEI number for the onboard phone (from assist) and the PK for Bluetooth. I had to dig through my leather case before I found it.

On my e90 it doesn't matter what you enter for a passcode. You enter 4 digits and then enter them again on the device.

if you cant find it...take it to the dealer and have them reprogram it for you...easiest option but generally its in the card of the leather booklet they give you when you purchase your car...Warning if you have a blackberry, it wont work well

Or, locate your Blutooth ULF box (mine is in the trunk) and the Passcode is located on the same decal as the P/N and S/N info for the ULF.

I wish I had known of the ULF box when I bought my Z4. The dealer first said the code was in the Leather booklet (NO!); then said it was given to me on some other paper (NO!). I arraigned to go to the dealer on a Friday to get the code, showed up and they were moving so the computers were not available. I went back the next week and they said they were too busy. After I found my salesman and got the service manager they found time to plug in the computer and give me the code!!!!

I have used a TREO and an older non-compliant phone whose model numver I forget with the Z4 blue tooth. The audio quality is not good and I do not have a phone book but it works consistently.

locate your Blutooth ULF box (silver metal box with ant leads pointed toward rear) . The module will be in the driver's side trunk, remove the driver's rear carpet pannel and it will be on the top above the trunk mounted cd changer and nav dvd player. The Passcode is located on the same decal as the P/N and S/N info and will be 4 digits beginning with P/K.

Slightly off topic:

I found that both of our Treo 680's pair with the Z4 M Coupe just fine but only the phone numbers in the SIM address book (and not all the "Contacts") get uploaded.

On the Treo, when in the Contacts, there is a menu choice to "Export to SIM". You do this one number at a time. Since I have over 500 numbers in the Contacts, it sort of makes sense to pick a subset of them for the SIM and Bluetooth. I also give them simplified names in the SIM address book that work better with the handsfree display in the car.

And... FWIW, when we took delivery in December we got a card with the card with the PK code - which was *NOT* 0000! The dealer also walked my wife through pairing the first phone.

Just went in the back if my car to get the code off the ULF box. Thanks. BMW wanted to charge me an hour's labor to get it. About $155 CDN

Bimmernav's website has instructions about how to get to your module. Mine is a Z4M.

I didn't remove the bracket all the way, just loosened the screws and used a CD as a mirror to read the code from the back of the box. Very tight but beats paying for something that should have been supplied!

Didn't your sales person provide the bluetooth access code sheet when you bought the car? Mine was in the owner's manual folder and was reviewed with me by my sales person before leaving the dealership.

I don't know what's going on with the passkey. My came with the code, but it doesn't work. The dealer have to flash it with a new code.
