The only E28 I've driven was an auto 528e. I really liked the car's personality, though. I wouldn't mind owning a manual 535i.

I'm going to pick one up once I find someone selling one that's not trying to make a fortune off it because it has a roundel on the hood.

the last one I looked at was an 87 535i and they wanted 3k for it.

Looking at the nice rides some people have on this board makes me think I'd like to have and e34 or e39... but then I realise that it would take a lot of money to do that. Money, that could just as easily go into my e28 and make it nice.
The car has proven to be pretty easy to work on. I'm afraid that I'd lose that if I "upgraded" to a newer 5er.
Bottom line... I think I'll stick with what I got. :)

E34's are still easy to work on. Don't know about the E39's though.

a decent "done" E28 is worth 4500-5500 IMO, to the person complaining about 3K... a solid car at 2500-3K is about right if it is rust free and needs a suspension overhaul.

Wow if this is a new sub-forum what great timing! I just found a 528e for sale. It is in visualy fair to good condition. I got a chance to start her and she ran pretty good. Has a little mis but I think new plugs would change that. Has not been registered since 2001 however. The guy is asking $950.00 for it. He's a mechanic and he claims if I want it and I give him $1100.00 cash he will tune it up and fix anything that would keep it from passing smog. The only downside I see presently is that it is my all time most hated car color. The only vehicle color I hate more than Silver/Gray is Gold yuck!! If your car is silver or gold please no offence It's just not my thing. But for the price....

For that price you could get an inexpensive paint job. Go for it!

Here's my TWO. The 535i on the left is going to my son. The 528e on the right was my daughter's, but a woman in a Lincoln has redesigned the front end, and it's now a parts bucket in my driveway. Fortunately, the cars, both '88's, are the exact same color, and her doors are good where my son's are rusted and dented.

I have a 528e and my rear turn signals and hazzards dont work. Where are the flashers located?

I've had 2 e28s. On my second one now. I will never sell it. 61,000 original miles, '85 528e with a 5 speed. Freshly tuned and drives like a charm. I love it. My original e28 was my parent's car which they bought new in '87. Also a 528e with a 5 speed. Drove it until 210,000 miles and she was going strong except for the sunroof leak which caused an interior green house. Sold it on ebay for 250 bucks to some guy in PA who was restoring his '88. I always wonder where she is now.

You know.. my 528e has been driven almost 7 miles for every mile that 528e has been driven. Runs beautifully too.
