View Full Version : Window Tint on E92
Mark335i 02-08-2007, 11:29 AM I'm looking for some feedback from those who have recently had window tint jobs done. I am probably going with Huper Optik Nano-ceramic film. I'm not sure yet if I want the 50 or the 40 grade. Has anyone had H-O installed, or Llumastar ATR? Comments? :shifty
Mark335i 02-09-2007, 09:37 AM Just a follow-up on this. I have been told by Huper Optik that my closest authorized dealer is in Sarasota, FL, a mere 263 miles away. That's probably farther than most would go for a tint job. :shifty
Tampa335i 02-12-2007, 12:34 PM I had HO installed at the dealership (Reeves) where I bought the car in Tampa.
They did a great job with the exception of the dot matrix at the top of the rear window. I had 30 on the sides and 20 on the rear window. The HO is a thicker film and does not do well on the dot matrix. I would ask whoever you have do it to just put black vinyl over the dots.

HybridE92 02-19-2007, 02:53 PM What is HO? A manufacturer of tint? Word of advice fo those with comfort access, I'm gonna get tint pretty soon as well but my dealer told me that when I get the tint done. I should get a tint that does not have metallic in it as this messes up the comfort access and makes it all screwy. He said that the metallic in the tint does something where it interferes with RF from the remote to the car and vice versa. He also said that they had a customer find out he hard way b/c he got the emtallic tint and his CA was all jacked up and they had to replace the whoe system and it was not just a matter of pulling off the tint. Not sure how it could jack up the entier system but thats what he said.
Not sure the legitamacy of his story but I dont see why he would lie about this as he was not referring me to any place nor is he making any money off this tip. Just a FYI.

Dealer told me to use ceramic for the same reason. I negotiated tint with the dealer as part of my purchase. I was very impressed the tint job, it was the best of any of the cars that I have had tinted.
Snowkone 02-20-2007, 12:03 PM I used the tint service my dealer used/recommended and was happy with it in general but the dot matrix. I specifically asked if they could cover it up, but they didn't and can't do anything about it. I'm going elsewhere to have that top portion redone and covered up with vinyl, but word of advice, do your own research on tint places and make sure you confirm if they can cover up that dot matrix.
The tint they used was 3M Ceramic.. not bad at all.. although I'm looking at Pinnacle now since I may have it darkened...

How much did the dealer charge you for the HO tint? I wanted to get a baseline for the price so that when I go later on this week. I know how to gauge it. Was the price that you got it at a good price, if not, what is?
Also, since you got it from the dealer, they probably lumped that into your entire deal and essentially you're financing your tint too correct? or did they give you the optin to pay for it upfront and not include that into the entire price as they usually do with the factory alarms, fabric and paint protector?
Thanks again!
HellFish 02-20-2007, 12:07 PM Is there a thread anywhere that has pictures of different tint options? I negotiated tint into my deal and im really afraid they are going to mess it up or not do a good job!
JNMACE 02-20-2007, 12:49 PM I would love to see a few more shots of some of these vehicles with tint jobs done on them. I would like to tint mine but I do not want to have it end up looking like one of those chrome rim cars with some moron leaning out the window like he has a hemorrhoid.
On a family member's M35 the tint is fairly light, looks good, and is enough to really keep the car cool and offer some privacy. I want to make sure mine will look dark enough on my TiAG coupe but not too dark since the interior is already black leather.
OC 335i 02-20-2007, 07:40 PM Ceramic films such as Huber Optik or Formula One Pinnacle while pricey, they offer more heat protection while not being as dark as a metallic based film. I have contradictory reports of issues with comfort access with Metallic films so best bet is YMMV. Ceramic would be my choice on a car with comfort access.
Look at this chart and compare the Ultimate to Pinnacle as far as heat reduction goes:

Note: Formula One Pinnacle is another competitor to Huber Optik. I have no affliation or prefer to either. I would personally make the choice dependent on availability of reputable installer in my area. FWIW, I'm going with Tint Plus for the Formula One Pinnacle in Southern California. From what I've read online, Huber Optik can be a bit of a tricky install. Both are on the pricey side, Huber Optik seems to be a little bit more pricey.

Sorry for the late reply. I had been test driving 3/5/X3/X5 for about three months, the 3/5 was for me and the x3/x5. When I chose my 328i I said all it needs are bigger rims and tint. When talking price his first offer matched edmunds.com invoice exactly. I did the ho hum for a while and he said he would throw in carpet mats (I've seen that other dealers do this as well) and tint. He did not increase his $$$ offer so I am not exactly sure about amount...but I think it was either $150 or $180. Either he took the hit on the tint to make the sale or he got me at or above his bottom line. Like I said it was an outstanding job.
Off topic I ordered 19" CLS rims from modbargains.com; once I get them on I will post pics. :alright
