Hi, I have a 1989 BMW 635CSI and I recently had the oil changed, but they could not remove the aluminum cover to replace my filter. This is now going to become my responsibility, and I am wondering if there is some sort of trick to removing that cap. The people who changed had changed that type of filter before and could not remoe the cover, they applied quite a lot of force trying to twist it off with the oil filter removal tool. If there is some way other than this, or maybe mine is stuck on, please let me know what you think.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you

Well if they tried to twist it off with an oil filter removal tool, Run do not walk to another mechanic. The cover is held on by a bolt through the center. See attached drawing.

+ 2 if they couldn't tell that the filter was not a screw on they shouldn't be touching anything on a car, wap em along side the head with a hose :redspot

OMG, why those mechanics who "had changed that type of filter before and could not remoe the cover" touched the car in the first place...
BTW, drawing attached is showing earlier type of filter housing, yours is late type with bolt holding the canister from the top.
Check www.realoem.com for detailed pictures.
Good luck.
