I think I am pretty much sold on the new coming 335i hardtop convertible but I just want some opinions here, before I spend $50k on a car. Any thoughts about the Mercedes CLK350 convertible as compared to the new BMW vert......yes I know, its not even out yet but I think it will be very similar to the coupe......anyone??

I'd take CLK350. Unfortunately it's a bit expensive for me. Why? First styling of CLK has no competition, second comfort of Benzes is superior to any other car, and finally Benz is more reliable. However if performance and handling is something a key for you, then you can go with 335.

and finally Benz is more reliable.

The 30+ visits for service that my '02 C230 had in its first 2.5 years of life would beg to differ with that statement. National quality rankings show BMW and Benz about equal for reliability. Cutting edge technology always increases the number of bugs requiring service. This is just the price we pay for not wanting to drive everyday hum-drum automobiles.

I owned a CLK350 convertible for about 15 months. It was a great car. The car is more luxrious and the ride is a lot better over harsh roads. I like the shape of the CLK350 better then the 335i convertible. I think its because it has the canvas roof which adds more character to the car. But thats my opinion. I'm now waiting for my delivery of my 335i coupe. As soon I test drove the 335i coupe I loved the engine and responsive steering and handling that the car offers. The BMW is a lot more sport orientated compared to the Mercedes, which is more luxury tourer. Hope this helps

Hmmmm.....Did someone say Mercedes is MORE reliable than BMW? My sis-in-law has had her new E320 in the shop more than I can remember...So BMW's are also like that???? I'm asking because I have never owned either luxury cars and don't want to choose the wrong one.

What appeals to me about the Vert is that it does have a hard top. For security reasons and also the overall quietness of a ride, as compared to the ragtop.

take the 335 over the mercedes. Mercedes has alot more technology and comfort, but you will pay in price and quality. Trust me. You will get to know your Mercedes-benz entire service department very well after numerous trips and they will know your telephone # very well after calling you to advise you they don't what the problem is, but will continue to work on it. Such b.s. I have owned a benz and the only the thing I will say is I have had a lot more driving days on the road with a Yugo than my mercedes that was always in the shop. Good luck
