WE NEED YOUR HELP - FOPIR HAS ALREADY MADE AN IMPACT, AND A BIG TURNOUT HERE WILL CREATE GREAT PR

Every year in December Portland International Raceway (PIR) plays host to some 30,000 cars as they make their way through the annual Christmas light displays around the track. A few of these thousands of cars see fit to throw out their trash during this slow procession. Also there are numerous bits of metal and glass that end up laying about after the light crews have taken down all of the Christmas displays.

The Friends of PIR in conjunction with SOLV is holding a Clean Up PIR day on Sunday, February 11th. This is our opportunity to help make our favorite park and Exit 307B on the I-5 corridor a nicer, cleaner area.

Please join us at 10am on the 11th for a massive clean up. There will be pizza and drinks for all workers and with many hands it should be light work.

We will also need a volunteer with a pickup truck to transport the cleanup gleanings to the disposal area in the park and a food coordinator.

We are estimating that with 50 volunteers we should be able to get this done by 4pm. We have an age limit imposed by the state fior folks that will work in the I5 ramp area of a minimum of 18 years.

Please Let us know if you plan to come so we can make sure to have enough food and drinks on hand.

Email or call Don if you plan to attend at drcbike@comcast.net or 503 970 4848

Thanks to you for your commitment to helping preserve PIR today and into the future

Don Clinkinbeard and Greg Meythaler

Date: Sunday the 11th

Time: Meet up at 11:30pm at PIR.

PIR is providing free lunch !

Les will be taking pictures, but bring your own camera too.

Help clean up the race track, get to know other bf.c members, and check out each others rides. Right now we are open for ideas after the clean up. There is a hooters near by for drink or we could go on a drive/photoshoot.

Add your name to the list so we can let PIR know how many bf.c members we have coming.

I'll be there as well. If I can convince the GF to hang around so will she. We're going to be across the free way at the dog park that morning so maybe we'll all come?

Alright people dont forget tomorrow at 11:30am; see you there !

We will need to enter the track by the back door at turn 8 off of Broadacre.
We will gather in the Pro pits and put together the work teams.
We will have about 7 people per team. I need one team to work the I5 underpass (no one under 16 may work on the ODOT right away) at exit 307B and one team to help paint some new bleachers that PIR has received through donation (if you plan to paint dress accordingly)

The remaining 5 teams will work the cleanup around the track.

Make sure to bring appropriate clothing. Remember layers are very effective. The weather shows 60% chance of precipitation (as of 6pm Thursday evening) with a high of 49 deg, so be prepared to work in the wet with appropriate footwear and warm socks.
You might want to bring a pair of light garden gloves to protect your hands from sharp objects like broken glass and carbon fiber.

We will provide nitrile gloves, and for those working the overpass area, safety vests. These gloves protect you from most chemicals and dirt but are very thin will the tear easily with sharp objects.

PIR will buy lunch and some drinks for us. We will also have some water available. I ecpect our lunch break will happen around 12:30 or so.

To date we have about 38 known volunteers and expect a few more. Overall we are planning for 50 or so volunteers to show up on Sunday.

Greg Meythaler and I are looking forward to a successful event.

If you have any question or issues feel free to email me or give me a ring on my cell.

Thanks for helping us get the first ever FOPIR event off to a great start.

Was there a drive afterwards? Or was it only about picking up trash?

I think it was mostly about generating good PR for the track, and to make the track, and those that use it, look like a good neighbor. As most know, the surrounding neighborhood association has had issues with noise from PIR, and closing PIR down has been tossed about as an option.

So, there was no drive, and it was both about picking up trash and making a small contribution to keeping PIR open.

Also, a public thanks to Adrenalin Racing--their entire crew was out there--that is putting your Sunday where you mouth is.

To all those who are on this board, and who either drive the track or want to support it as a resource, please register at
