1a) Part number for the CD changer: 82 11 1 469 404 (I don't remember the price)
1b) Part number for the installation kit for the CD changer: 65 12 0 152 827 (about $75)
2) My CD changer will play MP3s burned to a CD without problem
3) I have no idea
4) I first put a CD changer in my E46 323iT. It was fairly easy but required a different bracket and trim piece in the trunk. It was even easier when I moved it into my 330 ZHP. However when it came time to move it into the Z4 M Coupe, even with the instructions it was a bit beyond me. I had the dealer do it instead. They charged me $165, stating they'd never charge anyone that little again due to the complexity of the install (there's a lot of pieces that need to be removed essentially including anything you can physically touch between (and including) the B pillar and the floor). The install is almost identical for the roadster. They also had to reset the system to accept the new changer.

thanks for the info, searched on ebay, 320.00 shipped but install sounds like like a pain in the neck.
