I am in the early stages of organizing a BMW meet in Gainesville, FL. We would get together, check out each others cars, then hit some local roads for speed runs and spirited driving. Let me know if you are interested in coming out, I have a DV camera to record the meet also. With UF here there should be plenty of people with hooked up BMWs... Let's make this meet happen.

As far as a date, is Saturday, January 25th good? Let me know if you are able to attend, or if another date is preferred.

The meet would be at around 1 or 2 PM to give everyone some time to drive in without having to get up too early. We could get lunch and then cruise around and get some video.

As far as the next few weekends, I would only be able to stop by for a short while, unfortunately I have people visiting for the next three weekends. But I would definitely show! Was your car the 318 with the M3 engine swap?

Go Gators!!! I'm always looking for an excuse to get back there (I spent five years there:buttrock ). I suggest pushing it back a few months and planning it out properly, Gainesville could be a really fun meeting place if executed properly. I've coordiniated big auto events, I'd be happy to help. As long as its not Feb 8-9 I'm there. My girlfriend & best friend have Feb 9 b-day.

Icecreamman, this is just intended to be a small meet, I'm not expecting more than about 5-6 people to show up. I think a larger one later is a good idea.

I live here but the only places I know of that are any fun are some local parking lots for donuts and the highway for speed runs... I also know of a twisty two-lane road that is a great place to drive.

It will be 1 PM on January 25th. How far is Valdosta from Gainesville? I think it is around 2 hours. If you can make it that would be great. It is going to be a fairly small meet though, probably 5-7 cars. We will drive around, take some video, check out each other's cars, and maybe get lunch.

Stjobs will be bringing a digital camera and we'll be putting together a video of the meet itself to present on DTM and bimmerforums afterwards.

There are some really nice lakeside shot areas around here and a few really nicely scenic roads in the area. Not too many twisties, but there are some.

Should turn out quite well. :D

Andrew, you have a tight car. That Renntech 300E must be great also.

I will have a digital video camera as well as a digital camera for still shots. However, if any one has a good digital camera I'd appreciate it if you could bring it - my still camera is just OK in terms of quality.

I know of several good roads for high speed runs, and there is a 3 mile lakeside run that is a lot of fun to do. It only has 2 sharp turns, but they are quite sharp blind corners that are a lot of fun to drift through. There is also a series of sweepers and a long (1/2 mile) straightaway.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Oh, my bad. It's called Lakeside Drive, I don't know the exact designation - maybe SR 443B?

It goes alongside Newman's Lake, you can get there by following University Ave. east until the split then take the right hand road.

Andrew - What's up? Yeah, I'd be interested in caravan'ing -- Gainesville is actually a straight shot down I-75 for me, though -- you're going to go, what, I-10 to '75 and then downwards, or another route?

We made it next Saturday, the 25th of January, due to the three day weekend this week for most students of area schools. We just had a three day weekend this last week so the decision was really between either last Saturday or next Saturday. However, definitely keep posted if we decide to hold another meet in the near future...we might even make it a monthly occurance if this one turns out to be a success. :)
