Just wanted to say hi to everyone here. This is my first post on this forum. And my first BMW!

I have owned audis for the last 8 years, first with the TT in 99 and then with an A6 in 03. When I saw the 335 and test drove it, I knew it was my next car.

I am upset my dealer allocation was such that I have to wait till May for delivery (April production) but oh well, will make it all the sweeter when it arrives I guess.

Anyhow, I had a couple of questions and hoped you could answer them!

1) Extended warranty a good thing? How many years/KM is enough. I think the max is 7/120.

2) Does the paint protection pack from the dealership reduce significantly the swirl marks on black paint (I only wand wash the car but my last black car was horrible after 4 years but did not have any paint protection)

3) What's everyone running for a winter snow tire (run flat only)?

Thanks. Look forward to getting to know all of you!

1) If you plan on keeping this car for more than 4 years, an extended warranty wouldnt be a bad thing

2) A waste of $$$$

3) Blizzak LN-22s

Is it worth it to get the extended warranty right away or is it better to wait? What is a fair price? I try to keep my cars at least 8 to 10 years.

Thanks!

Is any kind of paint protection a waste of money or just the dealership offered one?

Any kind of "Paint protection" is a scam.

Just take care of the swirl marks yourself. There will be a bunch of different products/advice here and in the detailing forum. I have had great results with Griots products. I used the paint sealant on my sapphire black metallic and got rid of all the toweling marks.

the only paint protection I would suggest from a dealer is the clearbra type film. anything else is something you can easily do yourself and IMO a little unscrupulous to charge hundreds of $ for it. (I use zaino which does the same thing... and it's expensive but still only around $100). I wouldn't sell it either. I would rather see someone bring the car in once a year for a full detail. the car will be better off when I take it in as a trade.

Don't let the dealer prep the car. Just have them remove the plastic and wash it. Detail it yourself. I used Poorboy's products no swirl marks. There are many good products discussed on this forum. Just pick one and do it yourself

Hi bmwave,

This is my first post in this forum as well. I'm also from Calgary too. So... Hi to everyone here. You guys are doing great here. A lot of helps and ideas for newbies like me.

I'm driving a 2002 530ia with the M-package. I test drove the 335i coupe a few months ago and I really loved it. Serouisly considering buying one. I kind of joked around a little bit with the sales after the test drive that I would order one now if he would cut me a deal. His reply was simple and straight forward...." no deal... you got to pay the full price".

I just wondered if you paid the full price for your package. It seems to me that it is rather difficult to negoitiate a deal here in Calgary. Not so sure if this is ths same in other cities or provinces in Canada.

Anyone from Calgary had the same experience?

Did you consider the ED option? I'm not sure so if ED works in Canada or not.

Thanks,

My preference would be

TiAg with black leather and grey wood trim
Premim and Sport package (18" or 19" not decided yet)
Steptronic w paddle shift
Comfort access.

I still don't understand what's the difference with ED? As far as i know bimmers are WAY cheaper in states.

p.s.
go for 19" 230s :)

I didn't get any deal except 1000 off the dealer protection package at Calgary BMW. It's very difficult to get a deal considering they are in such short supply. But the dealer is painting my calipers when it arrives for 150 which is fair...being kinda nice that way.

What does ED stand for?

ED is European Delivery and you do save money picking it up in Germany.
Here is a link to it on the BMW site

I agree with the others about the paint protection. It's a wait of money. I'm not sure how it works in Canada, but in the states, you can always buy the ext warranty later too.

Thanks guys for all your info. I'll look into the ED program to see if that works in Canada or not.
