<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Hey guys,

I just joined the forum. I currently drive an 05 S2K and want something more luxury. Hopefully I can join the bimmer side soon. I'm looking for a 03/04 Z4 3.0i in the NorthWest states. Hopefully near Seattle area.
I want the power top so prefer ones with the premium package.

If anyone know of any for sale, please tell me. I'm looking to buy soon.

Thanks
Ken

I have one for sale, sterling grey exterior, dream red interior. Sports and premium. 2003 3.0L with SMG transmission, just a hair over 36,000 miles. Lease ends in 2 months, it'd be an awful waste for it to go back to the dealership so they can turn it around and sell it CPO for $35,000.

Asking for $25,000 in Southern California. It's only a few days drive up the beautiful Pacific coast. ;)

any more complaints of the S2K?

The only complaint for the S2K was the interior. BUT it is a HONDA, so luxury shouldn't be too big on their list. AND the S2K was made purely for the raw sports style. They made good upgrades for the 2004+, however I still would like the luxury features the Z4 has.

How's the handling on the Z4? That's one thing I noticed in the S2K. Handling is so nice.

Hehe - I have to chuckle reading your thread because I have a Z4 3.0si Coupe in production right now and will be trading in my '05 S2k for it. Pretty much the same reasons across the board as what you cite. I did want the handling of the new Coupe with the Sports Package to bring me into the same type of handling feel I have been used to with the S2k.

Hahaha. Have you test drive the coupe? Does it still give you that excitement when taking the curves? I really hope when I do get a Z4, I'll still be able to have fun and take long trips with it. With the S2K, it isn't very roomy and comfy to drive long distance.

My test drive with the coupe was an interesting experience on this count. I asked for a loop with a) freeway time to gauge the noise b) some twisties to sample the car's balance and c) a nasty stretch of downtown Portland (west Burnside) to sample a chunked out pothole nightmare. I was making a point of being nice to the coupe they let me drive because it was not a demo car and I knew I wasn't going to buy it so my main point in the twisties was to simply be smooth through the turns and try to feel the car's ability to do the weight transitions. I also took a glance at the speedometer to note that I was doing about 10-15mph over the yellow warning signs just for grins. At that speed the car's handling felt entirely unstrained and I saw no signs of unease on the face of the sales rep in the passenger seat on how I was driving. The weight transitions felt very nice and easy to control.

After the test drive I went back through the same loop with my S2k and when I hit the twisties made a point of matching the speed I had noted earlier. I almost put the S2k off the road trying to match what I had done in the Z4 and I wasn't even trying with the Z. I had to back off in order to have the same degree of control I had seen with the coupe through those turns.

I was glad I didn't have the salesdroid in my car at that point because my jaw was on the floor and the only question on my mind as I went home was what options I wanted on the one I was about to order.

I have done several long trips with the S2k including a week long trek down to Thunderhill last summer with a return back up the coast and I am very much looking forward to more creature comforts and space the next time I try something like that.

Yeah that's the reason I coulnd't buy one. The interior was really unergonomic. I also didn't care much for the exterior style. Fun to drive, but not fun enough to win out over the also fun, and with twice the storage space, Z4.

The Z4 is a great handling car. it's the best platform BMW currently makes.

And the car is very comfortable on trips. I've already driving mine 8 hours straight. And the storage space is more than enough for two people for a few days.

I have a 3.0i 03. I'm actually considering trading it for a S2000. I'm in Southern California...maybe we can talk :).

If you're serious, PM me your number, and I'll give you a call :).

The S2K is a bit harder to drive though. Especially without traction control. Although the AP2 is a bit more "forgiving" than the AP1.

This is why I need a Z4. PPL Sell me your car!

Just curious, anyone has or knows a site that tell you all the difference and options for a Z4 throughout the years? I want to know all the changes BMW made throughout the years for the Z4. Color availability for the interior and exterior would be good. It would be great to know what color were dropped or added for interior and exterior also.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

I'd pay for that database! The Miata owners are amazing on compiling information on their cars like that. BMW people.... not so much.

If it has a sport button it came with sports package
heated seats, motorized roof and leather are all signs of premium package.

and my color, maldives did not make it through the whole model run. :)

Oh that sucks. Oh well, I'll have to find the info through hours of google and bimmerforums then. We used to have all these info at S2Ki.com. We even have a step by step detailing book made by one of our members. If I get a Z, I'll make up something for sure!

Haha Lauren you're starting to talk like Borat :o.

For the record, I don't have Premium but I have power top/leather/heated seats. They were all available separately as well :).

Thanks bud. You're probably better off buying more locally :).

Now, do you really think it's a good idea to trade the Z for a S2000? I drove a S2000 awhile back, wasn't too impressed. Then I drove another one this past weekend, and I needed new pants after the drive. I guess I wasn't driving it properly the time(s) before...I didn't rev to over 7,000 previously. I just want this car to be the least boring...I don't care too much about practicality in a roadster :).

S2000 isn't meant as a daily driver. Its meant for the track. If you dont hit Vtec, you are just driving another civic. The 9000rpm is amazing. If you dont want practicality, and has a need for fun then the S is very good for you. I'm not too sure about giving up your Z for the S though. Thats probably more personal opinion.

///M owners are the only ones to benefit from extremely correct databases. I have been searching for more info on Z4s as my mom is about to purchase one. I keep telling her 3.0, but she has found a 2.5 she loves...

I am going to have to drive the 2.5 myself to see. How do you like yours?

I love mine. The only thing it needs is the 6sp, because it revs very high, otherwise it is fantastic.

Dual tone upholstery is only available on the 2.5 in the U.S. I think. And it wouldn't be red and black, I think it comes in cloth and grey. Outside of U.S. anything is possible.

Yup you are right. I just checked, it was the dream red. Although I thought the pannels would be black not silver.

Question for The HACK. How's the SMG? I actually haven't driven one with SMG before. What's different compared to the crappy Semi-Auto-Shift ones.

Thats a great question, also how does it compare to manual?

Also I might be interested in your lease when it ends, that would give me time to properly prepare for a purchase.

keep me up to date on that for sure! :buttrock

Last day of the lease is April 12th.

As for SMG vs. Stick...I dunno, I like driving stick better. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the SMG. I like the intangibles of having to work the clutch myself.

Personally, I find the ability to modulate the clutch with a third pedal to be more precise on launch. The way the SMG launches leaves a little to be desired. Again, nothing against the SMG, it is quite capable...But with a real third pedal you get to choose how aggressive you want to be with the launch, where as with the SMG you get 2 settings...VaBAM! on take off or "lurch lurch go". Just a personal preference.

One of the biggest benefit of the SMG is when you decide to drive aggressively on canyon roads. It makes a significant difference when you don't have to think or worry about the clutch and the shifter, and just double tap the paddle to down-shift going into a turn. Takes all the guessing work out of it. Or when you are trying to pass slower moving cars on the freeway. No need to blip the throttle and move the shifter.

At the end of the day, I chose SMG mainly because I share the Z4 with my wife, and I wasn't about to give up the joy and performance benefits of manual transmission. Meanwhile, if and when I miss my third pedal I still got my MZ4 coupe. If you need to share a car with an SO, this is like the PERFECT compromise...But a compromise it is, at least for me.

As for SMG vs. Steptronic...No comparison here. SMG is a real manual transmission with a real clutch. Shift is direct and sharp and darn near instantaneous, much faster than I can possibly execute a shift in a real manual. But that's where the comparison ends, since it's a real stick it shifts like a stick, not like an auto. In an auto you get that nice lag and smooth up and down-shift, while in the SMG the second the clutch plates engage, you're in gear. If you're looking for a smooth shifting automatic, the SMG is not it and will likely never be it. It does have automatic modes but again, the automatic modes behave like someone shifting a manual for you. It's hard to explain. If you're looking for a comfortable, smooth automatic shifting transmission...Pass up on the SMG.
