View Full Version : Nice restaurant in SD
roush611 02-05-2007, 07:50 PM With this stupid hallmark holiday coming up i need a nice restaurant in the San Diego area. I am from Nor Cal and my gf goes to USD so i have no idea what is down there. help would be great. I was looking into Georges at the Cove but that is just a little steep.
Khiladi1020 02-05-2007, 07:53 PM There's a lot of places in the Cove in La Jolla, but yeah, they are on the steep side... other than that, theres a lot of nice little restaurants in and around gaslamp in downtown.

What type of place and what price range? There's everything from $80 nice to $400 nice. And of course wine can bring it well over that amount. :devillook
shaka750il 02-05-2007, 08:52 PM last time i was in SD (for more than just a quick business deal) we stayed at the Dana and had several great meals at the restaurant next door (i think it's called the Blue Oyster) - it's not ultra fancy but definately nice (both in ambience and price), the service was good and the people were extremely friendly; my wife and i both agreed that it was probably one of the best restaurants we've had the pleasure of visiting
slcook54 02-05-2007, 08:59 PM George's is perfect for a nice dinner, my friend Lisa is the hostess there, she loves it.

At restaurants with $30 entrees they generally don't ask for ID. ;)
slcook54 02-05-2007, 11:09 PM Cafe Japengo is a winner too, one of my favorites.

Italian Seafood - "Tutto Mare" in UTC area
Indian food - "Bombay", on 5th ave, around the corner of University in hillcrest
Japanese sushi - "Taka Sushi" in downtown on 5th ave around the corner of market steet.
Dinning w/ ocean view - "The Brockton Villa" by La Jolla shores / cove.
Brazillian BBQ - "Rei Dogado" in downtown SD
Thai food - "Taste of Thai" on University Ave in Hillcrest
Greek food - "Aesop's Table" in UTC
Dim Sum - "Jasmine" on Convoy Street
Italian food - "Lorna's" on Governor Drive south of the UTC area
And i also like "Roy's" mentioned above... hope that helps...

maybe some more ocean views for the nor cal boy!!!
shaka750il 02-06-2007, 03:26 AM maybe some more ocean views for the nor cal boy!!!
because we don't have oceans here in NorCal?

In that case, I highly recommend the Brockton Villa. If you make reservations, ask for seating with a view.
here are some "ideas" to entertain the gf...
you can rent a kayak and explore the shores/caves. you can also get someone to give you a tour of some of the caves. go to La Jolla shores early for that, and you can walk to the restaurant afterwards. Here is some info on that:
http://www.sandiegobikeandkayaktours.com/
if that's not so interesting to you guys, a short walk along the shore is pleasant. you can often see sea lions beached up there. there's a nice park area too for a picnic or BBQ.
if you go a little north of La Jolla shores, you can visit Torrey Pines state park. They have a glider port there if that interests you. You can also hike down the cliff there to blacks beach. because it's a pretty secluded beach, people often go there to get naked. it can be a nice place to go with a date when there aren't many people around. sometimes you get weirdos walking around.
also, after dinner, when it gets dark, driveup to Mount Soledad. there's a beautiful sight of the city lights from up there.
anyway... just some ideas. don't know how much time you have or what you like to do...

Really nice place right at the end of Santa Monica with a view of the ocean from pretty much every window. Be sure to get a reservation early though. Because of the location, they do book up. Good seafood and italian restaurant.
