so me and a friend on a big car cruise with 150+ cars and we are on a 2 lane highway, i was in the mood for some racing and i get next to a slammed rsx type-s....oooh ive beaten those before:D (2 of my friends have an '06 with intake)

so i pull up next to him and ask him to run 1 time....he nods and we slow down to about 40mph (2nd gear) and i say on the 3rd honk...he nods...beep beep beep!! i give him the jump knowing(thinking) i can beat this guy, he shifts to 3rd before i do and starts walking!! i shift to 3rd hoping to catch up.....but NO! he shifts to 4th and starts walking harder!! damn:eek: that rsx is damn fast! wtf!? im thinking to myself, maybe i didnt shift right, or maybe my cars acting up so i pull up to him and tell him one more time. he agrees and smiles...

we line up in second and i beep 1, 2, 3 and we take off even...i feel my vanos pulling, but i guess his vtec pulled harder, stonger,faster:mad ...it was done, he pulled a good 2 1/2 car lengths on me and i gave him a thumbs up being a good sport

the next day i asked my rsx friends about this car and i found it was one of the fastest rsx's on the island and found his profile on clubrsx.com heres his mods:

I guess you simply have no mods done yet. I hope you at least put in the basic M3 chip from TMS to make sure the car is getting the right fuel and timing. A few litle mods here and there and you will say bye bye to the modded RSX!

This seems odd. I know those RSX's can move with bolt ons but I have over taken them descently. There's a guy down here with full exhaust/headers/ecu/type R wing/etc and he wasn't really a match for my 540 which was not much faster then my M3. You sure your shifting was up to par? You might want to get your car checked out as its swapped and my not be running to its full potential

So basically he has intake, header, exhaust and an updated final drive from the JDM ITR. There has to be something else that isn't listed if he "walked" you. I have total respect for all Hondas / Acuras but that doesn't seem right with what is listed, but never the less good race.

When you did your swap, did you change the diff? Gearing would really help you! If you haven't look for a diff out of a 96-99 M3 vert. That gearing will really wake your car up!:buttrock Those Ricers can be stupid fast!!

You could have a bad vacume leak..
My car felt slower last week, I thought maybe it was my 3.38 being run low on oil as it leaks abit, it was full... My tranny was a little over filled though and it shifts better now..
What tuning do you have?

Yeah lucky his RSX wasnt running skunk2 cams or spoon sport cams or it would've been different outcome also. Yeah a modded RSX type S or any modded B series or K series motor supports to mods very well, i gotta be honest i wished BMWs could support the mods like hondas/acuras do to be honest with all of you. But yeah just get a few more mods & you'll be able to take him but wont be easy.

How does a high 14sec car gain 100hp+ or at least 1 full second better performance in the 1/4 mile with 218whp? Gears? Not exactly lightly modded. And that RSX sure doesn't have 100hp worth of mods, either.

Am I missing something?

Not really. With what the guy has with hondata if its tuned. He is making a healthy 210-220whp. Let alot he has better gearing and is lighter then the s50 sedan.

That RSX-S was actually pretty lightly modded in terms of gogo parts.

Hmm...I've run a few heavily modded RSX's and never had too much trouble with them - it's the damn SRT-4's that kill me. :(

my friend has those mods except for the final, and on slicks he runs about a 13.3-13.4... so they are pretty quick for what they are!

when i was at 216whp i ran 13.9 at 99.xx so im not sure where the high 14second remark is going too?

dont feel too bad, those K series are serious. Drop in a set of cams/injectors/software and you will be pulling on most NA cars.

Why would it need an engine swap? Are you serious? Honda tuners are giving up on B series heads, as they simply cannot be ported to any where near the stock diameter of the K series. And believe me, there is plenty of meat for porting the ports of a K series.

The RSX type S even does well in autoX. All around, its a great front wheel drive car. I would love to stick one of those engines in an E21/E30.

my car is about 400lbs more and both the driver and the passenger of the rsx was about 60lbs lighter than me and my friend.

so 218whp and 3200+360lbs. vs. 210whp and 2800+300lbs w/better gearing.

i would have thought it would have been closer, he was pulling pretty good. but the thing that gets me is that i can pull 4 cl's on my friends rsx with intake and hyperground. i guess these other couple of mods make it the opposite. my mods are TMS chip, cosmos cai, and magnaflow catback. i really want some quick gearing now(still have the 3.15open), 24# inj, euro hfm, pullies and cams...

Just watch out if he gets cams, better intake manifold, and more tuning. Hell be up near 250-260whp no doubt. One of the most impressive 4 cylinders out there on the market.

Nice run, easy to believe. I had my ass handed to me by a boosted RSX about 6-7 months ago. It had all the 'JDM' decals on it, it said Integra Type R and was VERY VERY fast. I can out pace a 300C SRT8, and a C5 Corvette (stock - duh), but this car pulled VERY hard.. came to find out it had almost 400whp!

^is your custom track pipe just a stock header back with a sawed out cat and tubing welded in, or is it a proper 3" job from the headers back that gets rid of the bottle neck where to pipe goes 1-2?

Stage 1, Fuel pump, balance shaft removal, wastegate @16psi (get about 18-19psi at full boost), intake, ported throttle body, custom vaccum setup, motor mounts, Map Clamp (controls the A/F), HKS SSQV BOV, 3" Intercooler piping, ATP cat-less 3" Downpipe, and a few other things.. mostly the essential bolt ons, nothing crazy yet, and I'm not sure if I'll put anything else on at all.. I really want to sell it and get a 4x4 for a while until the Challenger SRT comes out :buttrock

I believe it. With only a intake and header, my old 06 RSX-S pulled a stock 95 M3 at speed. They MOVE in the upper end. I've seen races on youtube at the track of pre 05's with mods like you listed above, walking a stock 350Z. The car ran like a 13.8 at 103 in the vid I saw.

Beware of the haterade the M3 boys drink around here though. No way a slow rsx could keep up with mighty ///MMMMM powaaaaa!!! :devillook ;)

Those mods will make a rsx-s trap over 100. I've seen as high as 103. No 218whp E36 at 3000+lbs will touch that.

if he had about a car and a half at the middle of 3rd, do you think that with 240whp and 3.46lsd will better my chances of keeping up?or maybe walking away from him?

about how much are you pushing to the wheels? i got smoked by an srt4 and i know he wasnt stock...

probably in the range of 280-290whp on pump gas. :) I'd love to do more, but it's like jerking off when you have FWD :help

cliff notes: my 218whp E36 sedan whos kept up with an '06 mustang GT, lightly modded evo's, and beat a stock 350z gets smoked by an '04 RSX typeS


okay, i'm sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but i have to. reading this post made me join because of this statement. you must mean lightly modded mustang GT's because GT's are slow. if you can beat a stock 350Z, you can take a GT. they both run high 13's stock. as for the lightly modded EVO's, there's no way in hell if you can only keep up with a GT. i dunno what kind of EVO's you're racing. must be lancers with body kits. EVO 8's did 13.0 to 13.3 stock. EVO IX's are capable of mid to high 12's STOCK. the last stock 07 350Z i raced i beat him by about 3-4 cars and still pullin. mustang GT's get about the same treatment. i ran an 03 terminator cobra and got him by about half a car with only a drop in filter and HKS exhaust, so there's no way in hell you're gonna keep up with me or any other EVO with only 218whp. as for that RSX, i woulda smoked his ass. the only way an RSX can keep up with an EVO is forced induction + all that shit you listed. sucks that you got beat by such a weak car.

What O.P needs to do is clarify what he means by lightly modded and lightly modded Evo's (exhaust, Chip maybe) are by no means fast cars or much faster if any at all faster then a lightly modded E36 M3's.Coming from experience i've ran many..on and off the track.They trap about 102-103..right about at what my car traps and my car is virtually stock. Evo's only have the whole shot, as any car that you can dump at 7000rpm does. Which is why they are CAPABLE of running mid-low(more so on Mr's) 13's. Unfortunatly trap speed is whats import in determining a fast car not E.T and that is why you are off. An Evo traps what a high 13's low 14's car does. Take away the launch and they'll run low 14's which is why O.P can keep up with them easily from a roll. As can I. I'll try to find an old video if I can. As far as 07 Z's. They are significantly quicker then previos gen Z's and can run Mid to low 13's bone stock..13.3's being the fastest around 104-105+. They do not have trobule pulling on early Evo's or E36 M3's.

maybe on that island but not in Hawaii. You got to remember Hawaii has alot of ties to the Japan racing scene. they have Monsters there. Actually Hawaii was the first place to have a Formula D event too.

haha...weak car huh? yet, the guy in his '06 350z i beat last week dropped his jaw when he couldnt pass my quarter panel from 1st to the top of my 4th gear. you can look up that kill too, i posted it up last week if you want to bring that thread back;)

so i found out the RSX guy had 196whp...HIM and HIS passenger were both lighter than ME and MY passenger..... and he had ITR gearing 4.7 with the 6 speed ofcourse. I have yet to race him again because the outcome should be a little different.

as far as the evo.....i think '95LTW' is right, its not about the et, its the trap speed. The one evo i raced said he had injectors, intake, exhaust and idk what else but said he should be around 270whp......but no, he DIDNT actually dyno it.
