Our club went for a drive this weekend. It was mainly a discovery drive to check out some unfamiliar roads. In particular, I was interested in Boulder Creek Rd as an alternative route to Julian.

We met in the morning of Feb 4th, 9AM. Drove through and around Lyons Valley and then proceeded up to the 79. We then broke off to the west to find Boulder Creek Rd.

As we proceeded several miles north from there, we ran out of pavement (see photos of end of the road). So this settles our internal debate of whether that road was paved yet or not. After doubling back to the 79, we headed north again and took Engineers Rd through to Pine Hill and hit the 78 to Julian. Lunched at the Cowgirl Cafe and mingled a little.

Why didn't you just shift into AWD and keep going?

Oh, you mean that DSC (Dynamic Suspension Control) button that would raise my car by 3 inches, soften the suspension, engage my forward differential... and turn the roadster into a WRC car? I totally forgot....:D

We have a Yahoo Group where we communicate and setup events in our club. See my sig for link. Membership is free, but requires my approval to join; mainly just to keep out spammers.

You both should take a look at the SoCalE36 forum (http://socale36.com) too.

Cool. thanks for the link. I've heard of the group... are they based out of San Diego or the LA/OC area? What do you guys do?

Hey how did you get to that Boulder Creek Rd? I will take our F-150 out there for some fun! Do you know where it ends?

Most of the active members are in SD area, but it has a lot of LA based members also. It's just another forum, but is just E36's.

There's a weekly meet on Wednesdays in Kearny Mesa. You should check it out, it's a good crowd.

And if you haven't seen it, you should check out moadster's turbo MZ3.

Head towards Descanso off the 79. Find Oak Road (lane?) and head north-west. You'll run into Boulder Creek Road, then head north on it.

The other end of Boulder Creek Road ends up in Pine Hill and intersects with the end of Engineers Road. After doubling back onto the 79, we actually took Engineers Road and ended up finding the other end of Boulder Creek Rd.

Take some pics of the territory we couldn't expore and post them when you do it!

Cool... maybe some of you guys can make it out to the Eastlake meet? Yeah, moadster signed up with our Z club already. I haven't seen his car, but would love it see it some day.

Cool. I think that a couple guys live out that way. I'm out in Texas for a while but still hang out in these parts on-line. :)

You guys are so lucky. Having just spent the weekend in the San Diego/LA area I'm thinking of moving. Chicago is 5f with lots of snow and straight roads. You've go 70F and lots of great roads.

Got to take my brothers Cayman S over Route 74 - Ortega Highway from I15 to I5

Also enjoyed the road out of Palm Springs - though only in a hire car :( - here is a picture.

Hey.. thanks for sharing...

I'm conflicted about your statement. I love CA... BUT, there are a lot of BUTs. If i weren't settled here right now (and i'm enjoying living in one place for a while as I use to move around a LOT for the first 20 yrs of my life) I probably wouldn't move to CA knowing what i know. I think I would prefer FL or TX instead, with a bias towards TX. A lot has to do with the quality of people's character, the culture, the influence of that culture on local politics, and the bang for the buck in relation to living standards.

I'm pretty sure we could get 50 different people to each make a pretty good case for why you should move to their state in the US.

It's pretty hard to get an idea of what it would be like to live anywhere without spending a at least a couple of months there.

Having spent the first 25+ years of my life in San Diego and now living in Texas, I can't wait to move back to San Diego. Texas isn't horrible, but it's not San Diego.

:lol and with your turbo M3, you'll have a hell of a time getting that registered in CA. if you ever move back, hope you keep an address in TX and register it in TX. not to mention, hope you never need anything higher than 91 octane.. even CA 91 octane is of pretty poor quality as it is...

I have plans for when I move back. :)

I just spent a month out there though with my car. It's fine on 91 octane if I keep the boost low (18 psi).
