I have a 1984 318i. The check brakes light is on, on the cluster. I put in some brake fluid, but the light is still on. What should I do?

What does the light look like?

I don't know about the '84 318, but later cars have a light that warns if the fluid is low and another if the brake pads are worn too thin.
