Just wondering if people do non-bmw motor swaps, I saw a bmw that looked like it had a supercharged 3800 v6 from a pontiac grad prix in it. It looked pretty bad a$$. :cool

View Full Version : Non-BMW motor swaps? That's a long ways down the road, but nevertheless. HoJo 02-04-2007, 02:43 PM Sure there are, the small block chevy is becoming pretty popular because it's smaller and lighter than the inline 6, and you can get silly amounts of power out of them. Check out the Engine Conversions Forum Here (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=208) DSkeet 02-04-2007, 02:45 PM LS1 into E36 is a popular swap, seen people talking about doing the same motor into E39, I think it would be a nice swap for the E39, those motors can put out alot for a reasonable amount of money... ehlpitel 02-04-2007, 03:15 PM Ls1 swap would be awesome. mbanks21 02-04-2007, 03:44 PM LS swaps are fairly easy and can yield great power for not very much $$$. An intake, exhaust, and software can get you 50+hp vs. 10-15 for an S50/52 Pavone 02-05-2007, 07:17 PM What do you consider "not very much $$$" JoeZ 02-05-2007, 08:51 PM Just wondering if people do non-bmw motor swaps, I saw a bmw that looked like it had a supercharged 3800 v6 from a pontiac grad prix in it. And we just got a new forum here on bf.c to discuss such topics :buttrock http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=208 mbanks21 02-05-2007, 10:18 PM What do you consider "not very much $$$" Consider how much an intake costs for an E46 M3 for example vs. an intake for a C5 Vette. Exhausts for M3's run over $1000 all day long vs. $400-800 for a nice C5 exhaust. A supercharger for an E46 M3 is $10K+ vs. $4-5000 for a vette. e28535ismjl 02-06-2007, 12:20 AM i have been think about a bunch of ideas, LR4 (baby ls1) are hafe the cost and just has much power potential. Nissan engines like the rb25det or rb26dett or the one i have been thinking about is the sr20det with big turbo and injectors so I get alot less weight and just has good a tranny and better handleing. or a rotary 13b would easly fit, or really just trying ot find something just as effective instead of the 5k for a turbo kit for the m30. 740iMC 02-06-2007, 04:30 PM The reason why parts cost so much is because people actually pay them. Kinda like gas prices. Matthew OilStain 02-09-2007, 01:09 AM i have been think about a bunch of ideas, LR4 (baby ls1) are hafe the cost and just has much power potential. LR4's are also cast iron though. :-( |
