View Full Version : FS: Sport Package Sport Springs from 1999 E36 328is
uscbeemer328 02-02-2007, 11:52 PM I'm selling a set of 4 oem sport package sport springs front and rear from my 1999 328is sport. These have been on the car for 115,503 miles. Springs are in perfect shape, and taken off professionally by Bullet Motorsports Speedlab. They are a little dusty in the picture, sorry. Looking for $40 picked up, I'm in the OC. PM me if you're interested. Thanks
Here's a pic.

Shizam 02-10-2007, 12:04 PM I am looking at either sport springs or the H&R oem sports. What suspension did you put on, and how is the new setup different? Do you have any pics of the car with these springs on?
Thanks
S
uscbeemer328 02-11-2007, 04:40 PM Shizam, here are side pics with the factory sport springs, and with the H&R OE sport springs. The factory springs give a nice feel, but if you're looking for increased handling, I would go with the H&R springs and aftermarket shocks/struts.
I put the H&R OE sport springs with Koni Yellows on my car because I wanted a minimal drop (1/2 in. in rear and 1 in. in front), but also wanted better handling for autocross, track and street. If you're looking for a good look (not slammed look) with increased handling, the oe sports are definately a good spring. You'll find that the oe sports H&R are very close to ride comfort to the factory springs. But also, keep in mind that the shocks/struts you choose will also determine ride comfort. I've driven e36's with bilstein and koni yellow shocks/struts, and they are both good shocks/struts.
Tirerack is a good place to find the H&R springs for a good price. As for shocks/struts, I like koni yellows because they are single adjustable, you can change them from stiff to soft whenever you feel like it, and it can be done within seconds. The soft setting is slightly rougher than the factory m3 ride, and stiff is just bumpier but still very comfortable.
Hope this helps, I know I rambled on alot, but I too was in your same situation. Regardless of what you get, go with aftermarket.

Shizam 02-17-2007, 01:32 PM Hey
Sorry about the huge delay getting back to you. So the top pic is oem sport, and the second pic is H&R oem sport? It looks like almost no difference but the front is higher in the bottom pic.Do I have them backwards or is it waiting to settle? Thats great as that is what I want to do. I bought the car with espelir springs on it and factory dampers. The car is too low and under damped. You said you have ridden in cars with different dampers, you prefer the Konis? has your ride height settled at all? Also can I ask a favour and get you to tell me the height from the top of the wheel arch to the top of yout rim?
Thanks again!
S
uscbeemer328 02-17-2007, 05:23 PM The 1st pic is with the Koni and H&R oe sport, 2nd pic is stock sport springs. Although the height drop isn't significant, you will notice it. The wheel gap is with the 17s on 235/40 is 1 1/2 - 2 fingers with H&R oe sport, whereas the wheel gap with my springs on stock 16s with 225/50 was 3-4 finger gap. Height will depend on the tire size you have, my front is currently on 235/40 17s. Yeah, i like koni's because i can change the ride stiffness whenever i want. Sometimes i get tired of riding on stiff, so i change to soft. I like having that option. you can definately feel the difference when you ride over railroad tracks, soft vs. stiff. :alright
Shizam 02-18-2007, 01:26 AM cool
I wasn't sure about the wheel size. That helps. I have 17" ACS Type IV's on my car so I can now compare direct to your height.
Thanks

Shizam 02-18-2007, 01:28 AM can you measure how high from the top of the wheel arch to the ground on the front and back for me? I will owe you a beer.

Shizam 02-18-2007, 05:54 AM How did the E36 with bilstiens compare to the KONI's? Did it have the H&R sprins too?
I like the idea of adjustability, but it is not essential.
Thanks
S
uscbeemer328 02-18-2007, 06:03 PM the e36 i drove with bilsteins also had H&R, but i think they were H&R sport. From what i remember, bilsteins were a little rougher than the koni's at full stiff. Both were comfortable for the street compared to coilovers, which i have also driven with.
