We can at least try. People said Gray Davis being recalled wasn't gonna happen, etc. This is CA, we use initiatives in the end the people decide the law before the state legislators.

well, i signed it anyways. but in reality, they need someone more articulate to write that petition. it doesn't really make a good case for the petition.

Thanks for the link!
In ten years of owning my E36, I have received one ticket for no front plate. It cost me a whopping 365.00 and a tow to the yard for not paying and fixing the problem before the due date. Considering I didn't live in the city where I received the ticket, I just plain old forgot I had received it. We or at least I don't care about that sh*t in the "OC" but in LA, it just gives the "man" another reason to pull you over and harazz your azz. I will continue to drive without a front plate until I buy a car that comes equipped with the proper fittings for a front plate. It's funny how the state considers any alterations of a vehicle from its om form to be deemed illegal, yet almost every car has some sort of aftermarket accessory on it and higher end vehicles don't come with holes in their front bumpers for a plate. If the state is really serious about this law and the enforcement of it, start with the manufacturers and require them to make cars that are equipped with the proper fittings, or pay everyone who needs to drill holes in their brand new cars to abide by their ridiculous and for the most part useless laws.

I guess leaving the billions of dollars worth of fossil fuel left in the Earth just wouldn't be as fun as electric cars...

i have no front plate, i never will, it cleans the car up times 100000x. yet, i think they should still enforce this law, i have received numerous fixittickets for this same issue, and each time i just zip tie my plate on, get it checked off, and take the plate right back off. the reason in CA why they are necessary is because the way the red light cameras are set up. with no front plate, you can virtually blow any red light and never get in trouble with a camera. i am constantly looking at cars and noticing the ones with no front plates are always the coolest types of drivers in general. they have an "attitude" that is separate from society's. the "tuners" and "drivers" (not your average commuter) are the ones who go out of their way to remove the license plate. the only "commuters" that have no front plate are because the car did not come with one. if there were no front plate law, it would be harder to pick out the "drivers" from the ordinary "commuters".

Red Light camera's don't take a shot from the front and rear? They could easily reprogram them to do that.

Actually, that's not true. My wife just had to deal with these red light cameras. they take photos from both front and rear.

I applaud your effort man but lets be realistic. We live in what is almost a police state. The biggest reason for having a law like that is because it gives the cops a chance to walk up to you and see what's going on. Basically a free pass to pull you over and work you just in case you might have something to hide.

On top of that its Cali, they will never understand that if they laxed a little on these laws, they would get such a booming motorsports industry that it would skyrocket what already exists here.

BTW, you seem to have the same commute I do, you still live in Glendale or Riverside? Or do you go to school here?

I do wish they didnt have this law.. but sadly, if you consider this.. people get followed by suspicious vehicles. How do you report the vehicle behind you? They want to have that law to make sure your car is identifiable (is that a word? :shifty) at all times.

I highly doubt it will work, but since I dont like front plates anyways.. Ill sign it.

After living in a state that doesn't require front plates (PA), I am glad that I now live in a state that does. I do get followed home from time to time, and I'd like to be able to identify the person's liscence plate frame in my rear view mirror.

Hasn't the front plate law been a law WAY before red light cameras existed?

Yeah, but to really be good evidence, they need to have your plate number and your face in the same photo.

Given how much revenue cities derive from tickets, including the red light tickets, there is no way for this initiative to get passed. Good luck though.

FCUK BERKELEY POLICE!!!

my first and only "no front plate ticket" came from Berkeley by a PARKING ENFORCEMENT when my car was PARKED at 930AM (they dont start ticketing until 10am for time limit)...every other time i've been pulled (santa clara county sheriff, CHP) over I was always let go after a friendly reminder

I know front plates are ugly i dont have one, but i also know if i hit a pedestrian i would stop.
Some people dont and if they dont have the front plate, The front of the car is all you usually see when your getting hit by a car. Then all you can really say is, it was a honda that was black with a loud exhaust and they left shards of fiberglass from their riced out front bumper in my flesh. :mad

I got pulled over last week for speeding the cop complimented my car and didnt mention my front plate. 52 in a 35
