I have a 5 spd e39 that shakes till the point where it wants to turn off when I first start it. It happens every 30-40 seconds when the car is cold...but after it reaches about 1/4 way warm,. it stops shaking....it only happens when cold. There are no codes or check engine lights. I searched a couple of threads and saw some stuff about a bad maf sensor, but not sure.
Any suggestions..

Yeah but none of these answered my question as far as an e39 goes..

In that case, the most likely candidate would be a small intake leak or bad CCV. Possibly agravated by a contaminated MAF. A cold engine requires a richer mixture and it doesn't take much of an intake leak to cause a problem that will go away after the engine heats up.

i have that same damn problem. from what ive been searching the past couple of days for my 00 328ci is that it is a dirty icv(idle control valve) that needs to be cleaned or replaced. search for that you should find more info.

Yeah I guess that a vacuum leak would trigger the CEL, what if you drive the car, does it feel sluggish ??
