Does anybody know of any true coilover systems for E34's? I've searched and searched but can't find any brands with an E34 application. I'm looking for a good set of inverted coilovers with height adjustability and both rebound and dampening adjustablility as well.

try "KW" coilovers... i can't post links yet.

KW, FK and Ground control. The KW and FK setups are basically the same thing, ground control's quality is questionable from what I've seen in heard. Regardless, you are going to spend about ~1500 on just the coilovers, maybe less on ebay or whatever

I think FK konigsport is the only true one made.

I don't think KW makes the coilovers for the E34, just springs.

Ground control is a conversion and not available anymore.

KW's website doesn't show an E34 under it's list of applications and Ground Controls are not coilovers, they are just adjustable springs. I know that the price is going to be high but that doesn't concern me. You get what you pay for.

good luck finding the gcs, doublt you'll find them, it is a coilover, but jsut the spring, its a sleve that fits over the spring.
fk and kw do make a coilover for thee e34, pretty pricey.

As states above, GC is just a conversion - not a true coilover set up.
True coilovers have matched shocks to go with them.

KW does indeed produce a true coilover kit for the e34. The Variant 2 kit.

FK also has two seperate options the highsport and the "higher peformance" konigsport.

I would consider GC's a true coilover as well due to the fact they are made to work solely on KONI's. They just don't come as a pair.

Good luck finding any of these in the US.

Actually, they can make them to fit Bilstein shocks too. But, they won't make them anymore so GC is not an option.

KW FTW. Before I dropped my car I searched for over a year for the best coilover setup. Not much out there, but it depends where your at and home much your willing to spend.

FK coilovers have to many problems. They wear too fast and may cause some problems during installation. Too many mechanics told me they would not install them for me. They suggested KW, or anything else I could find.

KW is the best setup for the E34, especially if you have an M5. They use koni yellow shocks, and I think the entire setup has a lifetime warranty. Could be wrong about that though.

KW and FK are both produced in the same place, by the same people. Look on m5board.com, lots of info on this.

It's kind of disappointing that there aren't more options out there, especially no inverted coilovers. I figured an inverted setup would be ideal for cars of this size and weight. Though even if Ground Control kits were still available I still would not use them. I've installed them on various vehicles from Integras to RX7's and none of them went together well. Basically what it comes down to is the lower spring perch on any strut is designed for a specific spring of a specific diameter. Every kit I have dealt with the GC sleeve never fit perfectly down into the perch. In some cases the strut will have more travel than the GC's and when lifted on a hoist if the GCs have shifted at all they won't go back down onto the perch the same way when you lower the hoist back down. Nothing but problems. There are far better alternatives out there. I would rather go with a good spring/strut combo than any sleeve-type coilover setup. Too bad there aren't any struts that provide seperate dampening and rebound adjustments.

I have the GC w/ Bilstein combo and I'm considering selling them to finance a switch to the FK Konigsport because I need the adjustable dampening and I might as well get a shock that was design for such a large drop.
It seems that recently I've found the FK and KW shocks all over the place. The FK's are more reasonable at $1300-1400, while the KW's will cost over $2k for the Variant 2s.
Or I'm just going to swap the Bilsteins for Konis because that's cheaper. I just have to figure out how to get the sleeves off the Bilsteins.
