View Full Version : 540iA killed newer WRX
I know that the WRX is kinda known for not having much at high speeds, but I was very unimpressed. We did a 65-130 pull, it seemed that he had nothing at all after 90 mph. At least he did not do a ricer fly-by so I give him props for that. The bad part is that the CEL came on about 5 min. after, fuel trim bank one and bank two, and misfire on cyl. 3, 5, and 8. Damn!!!:mad
ivanito 02-01-2007, 10:02 AM try racing it from a stop
MechEngr 02-01-2007, 10:08 AM sounds like you got plugged cats
amir21 02-01-2007, 01:23 PM wrx = overrated
sounds like you got plugged cats
I got several intake leaks that are getting fixed this weekend. If it does not fix it then the cats are going bye-bye.
I would like to try a WRX from a stop, I think that it would be close.

WRX's are disgusting from a stand-still. I have fond memories of watching one of the best prepared WRX's in the country downshift to first at a "1 on 1" autocross type thing our region had.
It was amazing, it seemed like the WRX litterally jumped over the finish line. But, I guess the 13inch wide Kuhmo's had a little to do with it.

evo connevo 02-01-2007, 08:44 PM How many car lengths did you pull, any mods on yours or his, and can you tell if it was the 2.5l?
ImportFanatic 02-01-2007, 08:51 PM Base wrx or STI? I think the WRX are over rated, but the money spent for an STI will make a WRX monsterous from a dead stop..awd launch..
strayv 02-01-2007, 10:37 PM Here come the WRX lovers coming in saying it's impossible....
Then queue someone saying something about the twisties & maybe a comment about the butt ugly looks of the wrx.
Then queue someone talking about 10 second quarter miles.
I think I've read this thread many times :-)
I8URVTC 02-01-2007, 11:12 PM I pulled a car length on a 05 wrx. They arn't that fast.
ledlum 02-05-2007, 03:31 PM I raced a sti on the way to work in my stock 328i bmw. To my surprise on the highway above 80mph, he could not pull on me. In fact I gained on him. I really don't understand that. WTF He even had a big exhaust on the car. Maybe he was just playing with me but I find it very hard to believe that I could keep up with that car. Maybe someone with a sti can explain.:help :confused
Shodanusmc 02-05-2007, 03:48 PM STI's can do mid to low 13's stock, and high 4's in the quarter. Mod them, and you have a nice little pocket rocket. The AWD sure helps them launch. Now I know, the 335's eat the STI's for lunch.
evo connevo 02-05-2007, 10:24 PM lol high 4's in the quarter is flyin stock
Shodanusmc 02-05-2007, 11:14 PM Sorry, meant High 4's in 0-60, and 13's in the quarter.
branks13B 02-06-2007, 02:45 AM how do 335s eat sti's for lunch their very evenly matched cars from a standstill...explain that to me?

LoL- all the evo and WRX people are just gonna come in this thread and say there car is better. Well the thing they don't understand is that any light 4-cylinder with a big turbo is gonna haul. And put that turbo in a bmw and it will wipe them off the earth.
mpower001 03-12-2007, 03:14 PM With some simple tunning the STi's are wicked fast!! I ran a car that had a remap of some software developed in Australia, that thing left me like I was standing still.

Auto 335s aill be easier to launch than a sti imo. It also has a crapload of torque down low even though the sti is no slouch either. It takes a stellar launch to put them(sti) at their advertised numbers in mags. I think there is a larger margin of error on the bimmer's side for a good qm run.
sprp85 03-12-2007, 09:20 PM Mini cooper s JCW ran 13.5 or something.. and STis can't break 12s?
:rolleyes
bmick530i 03-12-2007, 10:12 PM a Cobb tuned STi with turbo back, panel filter and acces port downloads will run sub 13 second quarter, that is only $1500 in mods, can $1500 in mods do that to your cars, I dont think so...no offense BMWs to Subaru is like comparing Nascar to F1, they are designed with different goals in mind

AWD loses more power at the wheels. I would assume a 335 would pull on a STI from a roll.

weren't u the one that called them ricers?
right, adding in two more cylinders helps also as does a considerable difference in base price (you should be going faster for the money you're paying).
