Is there already a thread and/or has anyone ever installed a flex disc and center support bearing on a M5 (91)? The vibration I'm getting seems to be coming from the driveline and suspect the flex disc and center support bearing might be the culpret.
How hard of a job is it? Appears I have to remove the exhaust system to get to it, anything else?
Thanks

Nope. After you drop the exhaust, it will be pretty straight forward. There are six bolts the hold the DS to the guibo(flex disc). The center bearing is a bit harder as you will have to take the DS out, more bolts at the rear. The DS is two parts, there is a center collar nut that you need to loosen and then you will be able to collapse the two sections of the DS together to get it out. Take the DS over to your work bench and seperate the two halves, but before you do, make sure you mark both pieces with some paint so that you can get them back together in the exact same orientation. The DS is balanced, as it is a rotating mass, and must be put back together the exact same way. The center bearing is a compression fit on one end of the DS. You will need either a puller or a drift of some kind to get it off the DS. The new CB must be pushed on in the same manner. Put the DS back together and into the car, bolt it to the Diff. and the flex disc. Raise up the center section and put the two bolts onto the CB and screw them into their location but not tight. You must now preload the CB by moving it approx. 1/4" toward the front of the car. Make sure that it is at a 90 deg. angle to the DS and tighten it up. If you do not proload the CB, it will fail in short order.

Good luck, not that difficult to do.

cool, mine started this a few days ago only in first gear, all the parts should be here by the weekend, luckily my friend has a lift in his garage so we'll be tackling it this weekend...parts pending.

Oh yeah, this is a cake install. Guibo takes all of 10 min to put in, especially if you can wiggle around the exhaust.
