Good evening all....I've been researching this site over the last few days about my problem and I've somewhat found an explaination as to what is going on with my '95 540i. Basically, my key would not deactivate the alarm, and the car wouldn't start.....common right....but even after manually entering the car, alarm still no stop. Towed to dealer, they say need a new key and a new something in my door that controls the alarm, and that cost $1500...???? I asked them to just BYPASS the alarm ...they say they can't..???

So, I bite...I ordered a key and it'll be here tomorrow.....if that doesn't get the car started, then what..? Should I let them replace whatever it is in the door, or order the part myself and have it installed.? Can the alarm be BYPASSED? or were that yankin my chain..?

I appreciate any feedback I can get....I've only had the car about a two weeks and look forward to gettin her back....better sooner than later, I just don't have the doh to be giving the dealer for an alarm problem..?

thanks again for any ideas on the alarm....I will continue searching and researching this issue in hopes that my wallet doesn't suffer.

You own a BMW... your wallet is going to suffer one way or another.

I've had this same issue before, as have many other members here. What you can do is to remove the alarm control module, located under the rear seat on the drivers side. See this thread for more info:
