My beloved ti was in an accident Thursday night on a local freeway. I was driving in traffic and checking my gps for directions back to my office. A mistubushi eclipse (who was 2 cars in front of me) decided to stop for no apparent reason, and it happened to be the exact time that I looked down at my gps. I hit the volkswagen passat in front of me, who in turn, hit the stopped mistubushi eclipse.

The collision occured at 5mph; the mitsu eclipse sustained minimal damage (a scratch on the bumper), the passat had a chipped bumper, broken tailight lenses and a bent quarter panel. The front end of my car was smashed completely, the bumper cracked, the headlights popped out, the hood buckled, and the radiator busted. My car was the only one that sustained serious damage, and I got the call today that it will be totalled.

I will not be posting after pictures, as it's too painful for me to even look at the car when I've visited it.

dude, thanks for the offer. I don't have the $ right now to buy it back and repair it. There was no frame damage to the car at all, but front end/hood damage. :(

I'm dealing with almost the same thing. Car stopped and I hit at very low speed from braking. Buckled hood, destroyed nose panel, headlights, and bumper. Radiator held up, and it only needed a new fan and a motor mount to get it running again, but it looks depressing. I can't imagine if it had been lost. Good luck.

thanks :(. The thing that sucks the most is that there is NO frame damage at all. It could be fixed and be OK, but I don't have the $ nor the space to fix it.

Dude, that sucks! It's always heart breaking to see someone's love get ripped from them like that...

But on the bright side... a pretty sick Ti just went up for sale (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=679667)! (Shameless Plug) :devillook

Regardless, everything will work out for the best... it always does!

unfortunately, I have no excess $ saved up for another car. I am pretty sure I am going to have to ship my m3 from the east coast to the west coast, so I will have a car out here.

That sucks. :( Good to know that you're fine though. On the bright side, you get a nice M3 to drive and take to meets.

How much would it cost to buyback + fix anyway?

damage is estimated roughly at $7.5k now. Buyback will probably be around $1k.

I go today to pick up my personal belongings from the car. I'm going to take the lisence plates, the lisence plate frames, and the sticker on the door with the build date (if they let me).

if you are going to consider the 318 totaled do you think that you would want to parts outs some pieces like pass side mirror, both side window regulators, power window switch and trim. just bought a 95 for 1500 and needs these parts.

I'm not buying back the car and piecing it out. The front end damage is considerable, but someone else could pick her up and repair her.

Not everyone has a place to store a carcass of a car
Not everyone has the time to remove a $5.00 part
Not everyone has the time to ship parts
Or answer questions

+1.

The car is not going to be parted out and reduced to a shell and disposed of.

On the bright side of things, the M3 will be here.

The Reason That Everyones Answere To A Totaled Car Is To Parts It Out Is That They Could Make Some Extra Coin With The Parts. And As Far As The Removal Of The Parts, So You Charge A Removal Fee, And The Buyer Pays For The Shipping. So What Is The Problem?

bellavus

yes, I had full coverage.

I have no place to store the car while I'm pulling parts off, and I don't want to destroy my beloved car any more by piecing it out.

I can't believe she's gone, after almost 6 years of ownership :(

I don't have a place to store a non-running car, nor time or energy to fix her up.

no one wants to take a car with who-knows-how-old apples in the backseat. :D
