My friend left country for a week and left me his 04 530i to drive around.

The problem is that Lock function on the key works fine, trunk open - You have to hold it for a while for trunk to open, and UnLock function doesn't work at all. I figure it's a battery problem, but I can't open the key!!! in my 98 E39 (old key) its very easy, but this diamond key has no screws, no caps - nothing. I tried to use the screwdriver to open it, but it doesn't open, I'm only damaging plastic.

Does anyone knows how to do it?? Or may be it's not a battery at all???

Thanks

New keys since MY 00 are recharging in the ignition, no batteries to replace

yup. there are no batteries. charged by the ring antenna when the key is in the ignition. if the lock button and trunk button works, but not the unlock, then its a bad key.

Wow! Recharging in the system?

a key will lose charge after 1 year.

yeah, alternate your keys to keep them charged.

and i haven't experienced any bad body modules as of yet, only problems i've seen are keys. but that doesn't mean that it's not possible and/or likely.

A key can lose it's charge in far less than 1 year. That's way off.

I've seen a couple body modules, but not many new style keys going bad.
