I may be down if it's in March.
JohnnyBoy 01-31-2007, 12:11 AM I know you guys usually head to us at CarbConn or Blood Ent. for dynos. Just an FYI, our dyno is going to be down for about 3 weeks starting the 31st of January. We should easily be up and running by March if you decide to come to CarbConn. I'll be making an official announcement on the significant upgrade we're installing. Very exciting. More to follow.

I was actually thinking about calling ^john up to schedule a dyno day somtime in March peferbly the 17th or 24th...I have some interest from my buddies with TT 300ZX's and a few others... altough place like kito with awd is good for everyone but i have feeling that maybe what carbconn is doin :)
I'm interested, just hoping we could do it some where closer to Portland area people.
GZBryan 02-01-2007, 12:14 AM Im Planning on having a Dyno Day early March I will keep everyone posted~
sweet, that would be perfect! I really wanna see what the new motor is putting down.
1bad m3 02-01-2007, 10:59 AM why cant everyone meet in seattle.... i have to drive 2.5 hrs from the north ... plus it would be a great get together on a sat ... all you portland guys get together and drive up all of us nor wa guys will drive down and meet in seattle
Theoretically we could, I just don't need to drive 300+ miles and spend 2 tanks of gas, to find out my cars dyno graph. I'll wait till march and do it locally.
SpeedLi///Mit 02-02-2007, 01:07 AM count me in if you set it up at carb connection!
SeattleBMW325i 02-02-2007, 01:10 AM i might be interested if its somewhat local
todor 02-02-2007, 01:46 AM I'm down for March. But only if it's at CarbConn... cuz that's where I've done my previous dynos and I want to have consistent readings/comparisons.

blackm3 02-03-2007, 07:35 PM 1bad M3. We used to go to this tuner shop in Bellingham that charges 60 for 3 dynos with AFR readouts. If you can get together 2-3 people they can probably do it for same price. LMK.
Formula E 02-03-2007, 09:49 PM Carb conn ftw-- youll get a bigger turnout
Steve Jenkins 02-04-2007, 04:13 AM I hope Carb Connection's upgrades include the ability to graph turbo wastegate activity. That's the only additional thing I want on my readouts from there!

Hey John and everyone,
I was actually going to be posting a new Monthly Dyno Day session for the first week or so of March anyways. I'll get on the horn with John tomorrow and see if we can reserve one of the first available days once their dyno is up. We haven't been to Blood Ent for over a year....there just hasn't been any interest in going to a different type of dyno and heading South - more people are closer to Kirkland than Auburn. :dunno
If you guys want to do it mid-March instead than we can do that too.

1bad m3 02-07-2007, 03:29 PM ghey
EEEEeeee36 02-08-2007, 01:37 AM Hey guys I spoke with John yesterday. Whoever said that a VW group grabbed the 17th was right; the 17th is not available (unless you guys want to join the Dubbers - I can go on Vortex and find out). He tentatively scheduled us for the 24th. Will that work for everyone? Sorry formulaemulatio... 17th was already taken. John doesn't feel comfortable doing the 10th; the upgrades might be done yet (MAJOR upgrades being done... I'm talkin' major demo and install). I know the 'secret' upgrades being done too! ;) So, it's either the 24th or the 31st.
1bad m3 02-08-2007, 01:42 AM thats so far away .... i might just go on my own now ... :\ and i got all my parts in last week and will be installing this week
Formula E 02-08-2007, 03:30 AM well im home the 16th-24th... at least I think I am lol... So that works... Be cool to join up with Vw's but thats all depending on how many cars go...

Well It's not really a secret. We've been telling people why the dyno is out of comission for weeks now. Most of you have probably guessed. We are installing the latest all wheel drive eddy current power absorbtion 424xLC Dynojet. It's fully optioned all the data aquisition capabalities available. This will now make tuning that much more accurate.:redspot if not perfect.

Hmm.. will you guys run tests of the same car under the same conditions with the old and new dyno to see if there are any discrepancies and if any comparisons to older data are possible? I have 2 dyno sheets from you guys and I'll soon be going for a new one and I want to know how comparable my results will be. Thanks.

No problem there. Your original runs will be accurately comparable to the new runs. That was one of the considerations when we chose to stay with a Dynojet. Losing 10 years of usefull dyno data would've been a shame.
Formula E 02-09-2007, 07:05 PM Yeah 24th works for me... Ill have my coilovers on then, woo hella hp...I can post this up on a private forum which will bring alot of cool cars... but not to many...probably 4-6. The sooner we get a set date the more cars will come... Let me know!

They are supposed to ship out on March 12th or something like that. So i'll need to install the exhaust immediately after I get it. Jesse, if you can offer me a garage where I can do the work, that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

m.olennick 02-13-2007, 03:19 AM Vollgas should have their AWD Mustang operational soon as an FYI.
I'm really curious about any differences that may exist between the DynoJet and the Mustang given the new software updates on the Jet, anyone care to elaborate?
ThipN 02-13-2007, 04:11 AM I'm down for a dyno, but not sure if I can wait that long. I have parts waiting to be installed. I was hoping to get a baseline dyno before installing the goodies.

I'll go with you. I just talked to John at Carb Connection. The dyno won't be ready for a while. I need to get the M3 dynoed soon though. Like everyone else, I would like to go to the same place to dyno so that the #s are consistant. I need to make at least 3 trips to the same shop for dyno. Guest I'll just wait.

Yeah, an exhaust swap is easy. I've got room in my garage, and a nice clean floor. :)
Hoping the exhaust will fix the HP issue you thought you were having with your chip? I think you'll see good gains - your software is set-up for less back-pressure so it should respond better with the new exhaust.

Here we go again... :rolleyes
J/K... the way Dynojets and Mustangs differ is this: A Dynojet originally used inertia to calculate actual horsepower, then uses the hp/tq ratio equation to find torque. More in depth, it measures the rate of acceleration of the tumblers, then calculates the horsepower needed to accelerate them based on their fixed weight and circumference. That is why on a Dynojet dyno if you lose tack pick-up you'll have HP but no Torque. DynoJets have been using an eddy current brake for quite a while now though that measures actual work performed (torque) using a strain gauge. Since it is not extrapolating information from acceleration, it is more of a direct measurement that cannot be disputed. Carb Conn uses a Dynojet with an Eddy Current Brake Loading Dynanometer.
Mustangs use a torque brake to find torque (mostly Eddy Current), then based on rpm they calculate hp. Some people say that Mustang dynos are harder on the driveline, others say it's no more harder than running on the freeway at WOT. No one has any proof to to either case so it's really a mute point. The are no more harder on the driveline than any other Eddy Current Loading Dynanometer.
Bottom line is that if you have a Dynojet next to a Mustang and all the same run parameters are put into the computer the same, you should have the same numbers within a few hp (normal tolerance for the engine and operating conditions).
It doesn't matter anyways; you should only be using one to tune your car...and your real measurement of power should be the track. :smoke3

I know of 4 separate shops that are converting to AWD dynos right now. It's the slow season, and most shops are realizing that they need to be AWD to stay competitive - there are too many AWD vehicles coming out that are tuner-popular to not have that capability at your shop.
Pina Motorsports in Kent is doing it; Carb Conn is doing it; Vollgas like you mentioned; and there was one other one in Oregon that I can't remember the name but I saw on another forum... it's getting pretty standard now though.
mitchelrl 02-15-2007, 01:10 PM Pina has had one for quite a while, they're a dsm tuner.

i have no need for AWD dyno so i never really care to ask :shifty
EEEEeeee36 02-15-2007, 02:37 PM Pina has had one for quite a while, they're a dsm tuner.
Andres Santoso, the owner at Pina, just did financing with my business partner. They either are just installing AWD, or they are upgrading/putting in a new system. I don't think they had AWD before because he was saying that they had to upgrade to AWD for all the new AWD vehicles that are coming out. :dunno
EEEEeeee36 02-15-2007, 02:39 PM Pina has had one for quite a while, they're a dsm tuner.
Here Mitchel, off their website:
We offer road tuning with an Innovate Wideband for $65 per hour, dyno tuning on a Dynojet 2WD Dyno for $125 per hour (requires installation of welded diff for AWDs), or for AWDs we will go to Dyno Authority in Redmond, WA to use the 4WD Mustang Dyno for $80 per hour.
So in the past they were doing AWD tuning at Dyno Authority.. but they are now putting in their own AWD dyno.

Yeah my new website should be up and running any time now. The web designer is almost OCD about pefecting the site so every time I say "are we ready to roll?" he says "Dude I just added this really cool thing that nobody else has, and now I'm up to 600 lines of code from 400" bla bla bla lol. So, anyways the current site hasn't been updated because the new site should be rolled out very soon.
Team BB-AW will be an enthusiast BMW/German Car team. The cool thing about it is you'll have the chance to experience other people with just about the same car constantly doing stuff. I might be doing a front-end suspension overhaul, while someone else may be putting in cams, so you can hang out and even if you're not doing anything to your car you can see how it's done and know that there are people there that can help you do it.
Brocken 02-26-2007, 01:21 PM Sounds cool. Front end suspension happens to be what I'm stuck on...haha
Have some Koni FSD's, back shocks I can do myself... fronts I got the passenger side strut almost out but couldn't get it out of the lower joint(where there's a pinch bolt). I should just pay to get it done since I don't want to screw something up but shops want a ridiculous amount.
Anyway, my point is, that's where it would be nice to have someone professional helping.
