I know Orlando has the largest BMW dealer in the country, but where do you Gainesville guys go for service?

Jared
01-15-2003, 10:31 PM
HAHAHA, there doesn't seem to be a dealer that will even touch my car... I have a guy in gainesville, at Redline BMW... The dealer here is only useful for parts in my experience...

That's a shame, because it would be hard for me to keep an Mcoupe down there.

Why do you say that? There's people to work on BMW's around here. The dealer won't touch mine because half of it is not what originally came with the car:devillook. Also, the guy that I have actually do the work is very good, and comes highly recommended from a lot of people who really know their stuff... Are you planning on moving down here?

Well, we have a summer home in the area. We need a car there, and a 99 or 00 mcoupe would be the perfect car to tear up the more than 250 miles of unpoliced roads near our house.

Jared

If its not extensively modified, I wouldn't have any problems bringing a car around here and worrying about service. The dealer here does good work, but they have tried to screw me over before when they thought I was just a typical owner of my last car, an M3. That and Redline, I've only been there once, but he really seemed to know his stuff, and comes highly recommended.

The car would be stock, save for tints, etc.

Redline has a good reputation around here. Stay away from All Pro. I only use them for small parts orders, because oftentimes they have the part in stock and I live 10 minutes from them, so I save shipping and it is convenient...

However, their quality of work is supposedly bad.

Jared

its not a dealer, its a very, very small shop on main street... the owner/mechanic works on lots of modified porsche's, and is very well known around the state.

If you're 45 min south of Gainesville then you're an hour or less from Tampa and Orlando.

Actually, work quality isn't bad, I know most of the BMW guys there and they know their stuff. The only issue I have with them is that they charge LIST for their parts, yet try to do JIT ordering.

Most of the issues that I've seen is that with warranty work, they've got to follow techline to get approval from BMW. That and most of the customers aren't that familar with their cars. Customer thinks there's a problem, but most of the time, it's intermittent - and they can't duplicate it or they can't describe the issue and the tech ends up finding a different issue that the one that it went in for. It's the same issue at most dealerships, especially with higher end cars who's demo is the more affluent driver who wants to drive, not fix their car.

I've been through Inverness. Its a nice little town there. You probably don't pass where we are though, you turn off onto that road that goes to 75 right? We are past that turnoff.

It all depends on how i feel like getting to work, lol. I can take about 4 different routes and they all take about the same amount of time. When is the next time u will be in dunnellon? I may have found a buyer for my crx so i should have my bimmer soon :D .

iwantabimmer,

You're gonna love the E36. You have to do it. I had a 96 200SX SE-R. I took the leap and bought a 1997 M3/4 and I could not have made a better decision. For much less you could buy a '95 OBD1 M3. You will not believe how amazing the the car is until you drive it. Massive upgradeability too, far greater than a Honda. 3 S/C producers and 2 turbo producers. I am confident that in the next 1-2 years people will be making 1000+hp from M3s. We're at 600+ now. The problem is it will probably take more than 100k in develoopment costs for a test vehicle. People/companies making that kind of hp in Supras/Skylines are spending 50-100k to do it. If my new business works out I'm going to make some serious power from my 3.2l. I really want to do it if I've got the cash. Do you see how this car has changed me? You need one ASAP.

Thanks icecream man, i actually drove my mom's bosses 96 325i 6cyl automatic today to see how she felt on the road, and damn i was impressed. Even with the auto tranny the car had a ton of torque and felt very quick. I am already addicted :buttrock .
My only dilemma is that i cannot afford a M3, so i am going to get a 325i, do a M3 cam upgrade, and other bolt ons. That will have to satisfy me for the moment. Eventually i will do either M3 motor swap, or just go with boost.

92 325 is a great car, if you're on a tight budget it probably is the best place to start. It's essentially the same car with a fun rev-happy inline 6. There's a boston green 92 325is 4-door with the M aero package, 17in OZ 5-spokes and lots of performance upgrades on the side of the road near me. High mileage (160k). No price listed, if you want I'll get the number for you.

I actually went to look at that car this past Saturday. The car was very clean and drove great. However i found a 92 Black 325i with alot of aftermarket parts that i purchased tuesday. Only one problem, while driving home last night from dinner both rear wheel bearings gave out on me and left me stranded on the side of the road. You wouldnt happen to know how to fix rear wheel bearings would you?:(
